The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Speaking for Animals
About us
The BC SPCA was established over 120 years ago and we continue to grow stronger every year. We are a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Today we have 44 locations throughout BC providing a wide range of services and programs to help more than 45,000 animals in distress and in need each year. The BC SPCA was created under the auspices of the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and is the only animal welfare organization in B.C. which has the authority to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty and to prepare cases for Crown Counsel for the prosecution of individuals who inflict suffering on animals. 📢Microchips are the best form of permanent pet identification – they're safe, inexpensive and they can’t fall off (like tags) or fade or be altered (like tattoos). Dogs with microchips are two to three times more likely to be returned to their families, and cats with microchips are up to 20 times more likely to be returned! Microchips can also help breeders maintain accurate health records and be used to trace disease outbreaks, nuisance or dangerous dogs and inheritable disorders. ✅Let’s vote to reunite families and enable traceability with microchips for pets! Join us in asking B.C.’s political parties to require that all cats and dogs bred, brokered, sold and owned in B.C. be identified with a microchip registered in an internationally recognized database.
