We are cattle country. / Nous sommes la terre des bovins!
About us
We’re the voice of Canada’s 60,000 beef producers. We’re here to tell the story of our longstanding commitment to our planet, people, animals and progress. We are dynamic, forward-thinking, diversifying, climate positive and quintessentially Canadian. We are cattle country. Structure The CCA is a non-profit federation comprised of nine provincial member cattle associations that provide representation to a national, producer-led board of directors. The 27-member board provides the leadership and unity necessary to speak as one voice on issues of importance to the beef cattle industry. CCA’s operating divisions carry out the day-to-day business in support of the vision, policies and recommendations established by the board. Funding The CCA is funded through fee assessments to its provincial cattle association members. The assessments are based on yearly cattle marketing records for each province as a percentage of the total Canadian marketing. This percentage is then applied against the CCA budget as approved by the CCA Board of Directors. Provinces pay this membership to the CCA from the provincial portion of their check-off revenues. In some provinces, this portion of the check-off may be refundable. Vision The CCA’s vision is to have a dynamic, profitable Canadian beef industry with high-quality beef products recognized as the most outstanding by customers at home and around the world.

The grasses and other vegetation in Canadian grasslands absorb CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. This process converts CO2 into organic carbon, which is used to build plant tissues. Grasslands have extensive root systems that penetrate deep into the soil. These roots transfer carbon from the atmosphere into the soil, where it can be stored for long periods. The organic matter from decaying roots contributes to soil organic carbon, enhancing the soil's carbon storage capacity. Proper grazing management by beef cattle helps maintain healthy grasslands. The Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) is pleased to see the Government continue to move forward on their commitment from Budget 2023 with today’s announcement outlining next steps towards establishing the Canadian Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccine Bank. “We hope to never need to use it, but having a vaccine bank in place is critical to protect Canada’s beef producers. If FMD occurred in Canada, having a vaccine would minimize spread and expedite a return to normal trade. Today’s news is positive on the progress on preparedness and is the first step of many to follow.” – Nathan Phinney, CCA President Full CCA Statement: https://bit.ly/3XpXjvK Government of Canada News Release: https://bit.ly/3yZvZee

We are kicking off SEASON 4 of Life on Pine Ranch! Each video features rancher Erika Stewart and her family and the real-life work on Pine Ranch, her family’s cattle business. These videos give beef consumers a chance to meet one of the families involved in the industry and to see how cattle are really raised. Stewart’s videos show all of the ways ranchers typically keep their cattle healthy. This includes practices like vaccinations, which consumers may not initially understand. “I want to show them that there’s a good reason,” she says. “People can trust producers and trust the beef industry. They can feel good about choosing beef as an option for their family.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gQaSb52q
