Learning and growing can be uncomfortable, especially when it comes to heavy subjects. Angela Parisian, Indigenous care liaison at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, came up with the idea of creating a unit desk challenge to ignite discussion about Truth and Reconciliation. “I wanted conversation, and I wanted it to flow naturally and come from a good place,” she says. Angela challenged all the units at the Grey Nuns hospital to learn about Canada’s history of Indian Residential Schools, Day Schools, and Truth and Reconciliation and to decorate their unit desks to show their understanding of Indigenous culture and the generational impacts Indian Residential Schools have caused. Her open-door policy encouraged conversation and sharing. “I want to help (people) feel more comfortable about asking the uncomfortable questions,” Angela says. Response to the challenge was widespread, with 34 units at the Grey Nuns participating. “They took it upon themselves and did the work,” Angela says. “It was way better than what I envisioned. It inspired people to want to know more. Part of what we are doing here is practicing the things we are learning so we can be better human beings to the people we’re serving.”

On Bell Let’s Talk Day, we’re reminded of the importance of prioritizing mental health—not just today, but every day. For healthcare providers, the demands of the job can often feel overwhelming. That’s why at Covenant Health Canada, we are committed to fostering a culture where mental health is openly discussed, supported, and valued. Programs like The Working Mind empower our teams with tools and resources to prioritize their well-being. By promoting mental health awareness and creating a supportive environment, we’re helping our healthcare professionals take care of themselves as they care for others. Let’s continue to support one another, and create spaces where mental health is part of the conversation. To all our healthcare providers—you are truly appreciated for the incredible work you do every day. 💙 What’s one thing you do to support your mental health or your team’s well-being? Share your tips in the comments and let’s support each other to look after our mental health! #BellLetsTalk #MentalHealthMatters #CovenantHealth #CompassionInCare #TheWorkingMind

Many UN members have a National Aging Strategy, yet Canada does not. Canadians have made their wishes clear. We want to stay in our homes and communities as we age. We want to have the independence, choice and the supports we need to live full lives connected to everything we love. It’s time for new era where all Canadians can age with choice and dignity.
