It has been incredible to be part of the ITMF - International Textile Manufacturers Federation Annual Conference along with the IAF World Fashion Convention, hosted by the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association in the historic city of #Samarkand. Set against the backdrop of the ancient Silk Route, this gathering brought together over 200 international leaders to explore the theme: “Innovation, Cooperation, and Regulation – Drivers of the Textiles & Apparel Industry.” Gherzi Partners Karim Shafei, Navdeep Sodhi, and Laurent Aucouturier attended the event. Karim's insightful talk titled “Uzbekistan – A Giant in the Making,” where he explored Uzbekistan’s journey and its promising future in the textile industry was well received! #Uzbekistan has been on an extraordinary journey of transformation. With significant reforms since 2016, the country has built a robust cotton sector, fostering investment in textile mills and achieving major milestones like the eradication of systemic child and forced labor in 2022! EU Deforestation Regulation Increases Pressure on Wood-Based Product Supply Chains 🌳 From 30 December 2024, companies doing business in the EU will need to comply with the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). 📝 The EUDR has been introduced to limit the EU market's impact on global deforestation/forest degradation and biodiversity loss, promote deforestation-free supply chains, reduce GHG emissions, and protect the rights of indigenous people. 🔍 The regulation is set to greatly impact the global textiles industry by demanding detailed analysis of wood-based cellulosic fibers supply chains (viscose, lyocell, etc.) caught up by the new law.
