Post-COP28, urgent steps are needed to reshape global #trade so that it incentivizes green practices. Simultaneously, #finance must swiftly adapt to support innovation and provide capital for a sustainable future, particularly in the developing world. Yesterday, InTent hosted a discussion covering the urgency with which we must step towards a more sustainable finance and international trade system. Dan Esty, Professor at Yale University & Co-Lead for Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future Project, stated: “The world is at a critical juncture, emissions are rising & we risk losing the core structure of nature that supports human life. What are we going to do?” A heartfelt expression of gratitude to our esteemed panelists for their insights and expertise: Patrick Odier, Swiss Sustainable Finance; Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, World Trade Organization; André Hoffmann, InTent; Carolyn Deere Birkbeck, Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs (TESS) Relive the session here: bit.ly/492q7xn #BusinessForSDGs #SDGTent #WEF24

Human health and environmental health go hand in hand; they are inextricably linked. Yesterday’s session hosted by Philips at the SDG Tent on why healthcare must lead in climate mitigation shed light on the pressing need for climate-centric healthcare models towards realising resilient and sustainable care delivery for all. Many thanks for the insightful contributions speakers from: Dr Victor Dzau, National Academy of Medicine; Robert Metzke, Philips; Pam Cheng, AstraZeneca; Jens Nielsen, World Climate Foundation; Farnaz Behroozi, Ph.D., Huma; Quentin Drewell, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Talking about decarbonising #healthcare, Pam Cheng, CSO, AstraZeneca commented: “The climate crisis is the largest global health crisis of all time. We are in the business of healing, but our sector is also one of the largest emitters. We have an obligation to act and make it easier, simpler and quicker to reduce emissions." During the The Club of Rome St. Gallen Symposium lunch we explored the opportunities and challenges that exist in advancing #intergenerational leadership. Research has shown that the generational divide is leading to a system wide loss of trust, and yet young people hold the key to sustainable business models. Young people hold a huge stake in shaping the future and yet remain largely absent from decision-making, “to achieve change, you need to bring young people into the conversation” - Felipe Paullier Olivera, United Nations Youth Office Overcoming these challenges requires more than innovation but a change in beliefs and frameworks. As Aya Chebbi shared in her closing call to action “Mentorship is a two-way stream, young people can’t fix the problems previous generations have left them if they aren’t also given hope.” It’s time for older generation to step up as role models as with age-diverse leadership we can combine hindsight and foresight to help shift towards long-term, regenerative strategies in business and policy-making.
