Step into a world of elegance and history at Salon Rétromobile 2025 in Paris. One of the highlights of Mercedes-Benz is the iconic travel buddy owned by the legendary opera diva, Maria Callas. Callas thrilled the world with her voice and chose a fascinating car to travel through Europe in style: the 600 “Grand Mercedes” (W 100). This car will be presented as an exclusive sales vehicle by Mercedes-Benz Classic at this year’s Salon Rétromobile. The rare two-tone paintwork, with the body in silver-grey metallic (code DB180) and the roof in blue metallic (code DB387), emphasises the elegant individuality of the vehicle. For her Mercedes-Benz 600, Maria Callas also chose an interior that perfectly combines luxury and functionality. The original service booklet documents that this vehicle accompanied Maria Callas to San Remo, Milan and Paris, among other places. In these cities, Callas thrilled millions with her art – and her W 100 saloon was given its regular inspections there too.

Our Mercedes-Benz Used Parts Centre in Neuhausen dismantles thousands of vehicles every year, giving functional parts a #secondlife on the aftermarket – quality guaranteed. And at our new battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, we are preparing for the future. Its innovative process is expected to recover 96% of precious materials. The facility’s initial capacity is 2,500 tonnes per year enough material to produce more than 50,000 battery modules for our all-electric models. Travel back in time 40 years to when the press presentation of the Mercedes-Benz 124 model series took place in Seville. In December 1984, the sedans are launched on the market, initially with four-, five- and six-cylinder engines. The 124 series has parallels to the W 201 compact class. This concerns the use of high-strength steel sheets and other weight-reducing materials, the further enhancing passive safety, the aerodynamic optimisation of the body and the design. The press kit describes the design as a “slightly wedge-shaped body with strikingly smooth surfaces and rounded edges, flush-glued front and rear windows and an optimised design of the rear”. The innovative panoramic windscreen wiper enables the world’s largest wiper field of a passenger car at the time. The 124 series becomes a multifaceted success story. And to continue this story, Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH still offers a large selection of classic model spare parts today. For the 124 series, this includes the switch for fan adjustment, the lower and upper parts for the antenna seal and the parts kit for the coupling.

What can you expect from the summer AMG experience programme? Significantly expanded on-track and on-road driving programmes, tailored for enthusiasts of all skill levels. The AMG Experience on Road focuses on enjoyable discovery tours in Germany, Austria and Spain. The Spirit of Affalterbach programme also offers exclusive insights into the Mercedes-AMG brand world. The Summer Breeze programme allows its participants to experience the handling and driving enjoyment of the current Mercedes-AMG models during a half-day drive. Mercedes-Benz R&D has set itself a technology challenge – to reduce the environmental impact of every component and material as far as possible. Biotechnology offers a promising route. For instance, in the VISION EQXX we showcased a silk-like yarn made using genetically modified bacteria. The result is 100% biodegradable, lightweight and very strong. Another promising is a leather alternative with the same structure as real leather that even uses the same re-tanning processes. It combines chemically recycled plastic with bio-based materials. These advanced materials are currently under research. Before a material can enter series production, it has to undergo stringent testing to ensure they meet our demanding Mercedes-Benz quality standards."
