EILT! Das "Generationenkapital" muss generationengerecht werden! Jetzt Petition unterschreiben!

Info
For 30 years, Urgewald has been campaigning against environmental destruction across the globe. We began as a small group of activists focusing on saving the Amazon rainforest. Along the way in 1994, our director Heffa Schuecking received the Goldman Environmental Prize, honoring her work in revealing Germany’s role in destroying tropical forests worldwide. Since then, Urgewald has grown into an organization of many experts. In the last years, we have been concentrating on the financing of energy companies and their impacts on people and the environment - especially in the coal, oil and gas industry. Urgewald has led many successful campaigns. One of our major successes was the coal divestment decision of Norway's gigantic pension fund in 2015. We are the developers of the unique divestment tools Global Coal Exit List (coalexit.org) and Global Oil & Gas Exit List (gogel.org).

Scary fact… 🎃 🛢️💰 👇 This oily man is destroying your future and you’re (most likely) paying for it (with your pension money). Did you know that over 5 TRILLION USD are invested in the fossil fuel industry and that a large part comes from our own pension savings? This means that OUR money is fuelling an industry that actively undermines the very future we are saving for. In order to raise peoples’ awareness, climate collective Fund Your Mother made this Halloween flic 📽️ 📺 👇 To notify half of Sweden’s population that they (unknowingly) are invested in big oil companies like Chevron and BP through the largest Swedish pension fund Sjunde AP-fonden, AP7 who invests a whopping 45 billion SEK in over 140 fossil fuel companies. Apparently, there are A LOT of Swedish pension savers who are not ok with this and thanks to our campaign they now threaten to move over 1.5 BILLION SEK from the fund, unless the fund moves its billions out of the fossil fuel industry before the end of the year. Let’s use this year’s Halloween to spread the word about where our pension money is actually going. And while you’re at it, why not start a similar campaign in your own country!? 💰🛢️☠️ ❌ 👇 Let’s get this dancing, reckless and oily man back in the ground… #movethemoney #fundyourmother #flyttapengarna

The global state of coal right before #COP29: 📈 thermal coal production at a record high 🔥 coal plant fleet still growing ⚠️ 95% of coal companies still without a phase-out plan 👉 Since the Paris Agreement, the world’s installed coal plant capacity has grown by 216 Gigawatts – with another 579 GW in the pipeline. Thermal coal production is set to grow by 2,636 million tons per year – a 35% increase on current levels. 👉 We found only❗7 companies❗that plan a Paris-aligned phase-out and a switch to renewable energy. The 2024 #GlobalCoalExitList has detailed information on more than 1,500 coal companies operating along the entire thermal coal value chain. More than 600 of them are planning to build more mines, extract more coal or build more coal power plants. Bottom line: The coal industry is not changing its destructive course.❌🔥 Years of engagement to achieve a sustainable transition have ultimately failed. ➡️ The way out: Cut these companies’ financial lifeline. Finance has the power to hasten the world’s exit from coal. However, this requires crystal-clear policies for rapidly phasing out coal finance and investment.❗ 🛠️ The tool: The Global Coal Exit List (GCEL) provides all necessary information for financial institutions to free their portfolios of coal companies. Investors representing almost $20 trillion in assets are already using GCEL.👏 🙌 The role models: Insurance companies AXA and Munich Re exclude all companies with over 15% coal revenue, while Denmark’s Danske Bank, Sweden’s Handelsbanken and Norway’s KLP exclude companies with over 5% coal revenue. ℹ️ Details at www.coalexit.org #coalexit #coal #climatecrisis #china #india #investments #phaseoutplan #transition #renewables #coalpolicy Stand.earth Instituto Internacional Arayara Rainforest Action Network Climate Action Network International Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke / ActionAid Denmark BankTrack Asian Peoples' Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) Facing Finance e.V. 350.org Reclaim Finance - ONG ReCommon Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED)

The hidden ways in which The World Bank still supports fossil fuels. In the run up to the World Bank Annuals we dug into the IFC - International Finance Corporation’s trade finance commitments in FY2023. They are notoriously intransparent, but our conservative estimate is that $4.7 billion worth of trade finance went into oil and gas projects. Trade finance is growing year-on-year. The fossil fuel portion of it increases even quicker. According to our estimates, about 1/3 of all IFC trade finance went to oil & gas in FY2023. 5 out of the 9 IFC trade finance programs are eligible to support oil and gas business worldwide. To lead on climate action and protect the most vulnerable from the worst consequences of climate change, the World Bank Group must do the following: 1️⃣ Add coal, oil, and gas on the IFC exclusion list. 2️⃣ Audit all trade finance programs with regard to their fossil fuel commitments on country level. 3️⃣ Publicly disclose complete and consistent information for all trade and supply chain finance, including financial intermediaries, trading firms, projects, and traded goods. You'll find a link to our trade finance findings in the comments. Big Shift Global Don't Gas Africa Trend Asia

Anyone else feeling the Déjà-vu? After the United Arab Emirates last year, once again a petrostate is hosting the UN Climate Change Conference. The parallels are alarming: 🛢️ Azerbaijan is a major exporter of oil & gas 💸 The country’s state-owned oil & gas company SOCAR spends hundreds of millions of dollars to search for new fossil gas resources 🙆 The Aliyev regime has an abysmal human rights record COP29 is a crucial moment for countries to set more ambitious emissions reduction targets. Given the Azerbaijani fossil fuel expansion plans, we cannot but ask ourselves: Did the world put the fox in charge of the henhouse? Under these conditions it will be extra hard for civil society and climate-ambitious governments to make the negotiations in Baku a success. Even more so as Azerbaijan’s fossil fuel path is funded by EU, The World Bank and other multilateral banks, European banks like DZ BANK AG and European fossil fuel companies like bp, TotalEnergies and Eni. More about this in our joint new report with CEE Bankwatch Network: https://lnkd.in/eZAbmC_G ReCommon The Climate Reality Project COP29 Azerbaijan

We're at The World Bank Annuals in Washington, D.C. And we urge the bank to stop funding fossil fuels - directly and indirectly. Despite saying the right things about climate in public, the World Bank Group has poured billions into fossil fuel projects worldwide in recent years, both in direct and indirect financing (e.g. trade finance). The bank’s own research shows climate change could push up to 132 million people into extreme poverty this decade. If WBG is serious about its mission, it has to end all funding for any aspects of fossil fuel projects. A good place to start would be adding any fossil fuel-related expenditures to the list of prohibited items in all legally binding agreements with borrowers. One of the biggest challenges facing the bank today is its own long legacy of advancing projects that displace communities and devastate local ecosystems. Reversing this pattern and creating effective paths for local communities to address any harms will be critical to building goodwill and ensuring long-term success. The WBG must increase efforts to strengthen its existing independent complaints mechanisms to identify and learn from unintended negative impacts of funded projects. It must also commit to a people-centered remedy framework to redress unintended harm. 📸 Big Shift Global

Together with a coalition of CSOs, we are calling on The World Bank President to end the human rights violations against our partners in Cambodia. In recent months, there has been an escalation in the Cambodian government’s repression of critical voices. This has included attacks on two prominent human rights groups, Center for Alliance of Labor and Human Rights (CENTRAL) and Equitable cambodia. In a joint statement, over 160 organizations from around the world are calling on the World Bank to take urgent action and enforce its policy of zero tolerance against retaliation. We, the undersigned organizations, call upon World Bank President Ajay Banga to condemn the Cambodian government’s assault on human rights groups, including reprisals against World Bank project stakeholders.
