Last week, we got one step closer to the successful completion of our Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V.-project VisPlore with a final workshop where we showcased our key achievements. VisPlore aimes to improve the visualization of massive datasets and provide interactive and easy access to surch resources for non-experts. One of the presented results was a 10-times reduction in the runtime of a visualization pipeline, making it much easier and faster to explore and analyze large datasets. The past few years have been marked by intensive work and fruitful interdisciplinary collaboration. The presentation of the results demonstrated how much we have achieved together in this area. We are proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to future joint projects! #research#teamwork#datavisualization

🚀 Bridging the Gap: Advancing Research Software Engineering 🖥️ The full report of the Dagstuhl Seminar "Research Software Engineering: Bridging Knowledge Gaps" is now published and available online ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eKq8MmRc 🔗 The #seminar, co-organised by our colleague Stephan Druskat, brought together participants from the #research #software #engineering and #software #engineering #research #communities, as well as experts in research software education and community building, to identify knowledge gaps between the two communities and to initiate #collaborations to bridge these gaps. 🏰 At #SchlossDagstuhl, participants discussed how to better connect the worlds of computer science and research software engineering (RSE). Despite the critical role that research software plays in science, there remains a gap in the transfer of cutting-edge methods and knowledge between these communities. 🔑 The report summarises the findings and conclusions for future work. Key outcomes include the creation of a dedicated website, the development of knowledge sharing resources (e.g. videos), and plans to publish a special issue of IEEE Computing in Science & Engineering. ✨ Four intense days at #InnoTrans 2024 gave us the opportunity to showcase our VR-based #research in #transport. We had many interested visitors at our exhibition booth, from manufacturers in the transport sector, but also from the manufacturers of the #VR glasses we use, as they were interested to see how their product is being used in research applications! 🚄 🥽 We were happy to show our institute's VR application for #modular #energy #supply for #trains (a project we are working on together with the DLR Institut für Fahrzeugkonzepte). What looks like a playful task is in fact intuitive planning of which modules to use for the best result! The modular energy supply concept can be viewed through VR lenses at a 1:1 scale on a virtual freight train. This train can carry up to 15 modules and the visitors at the DLR booth could equip the train with fuel cells, hydrogen tanks and batteries as desired. They could then view the resulting values for power, capacity, range and top speed. Graphs gave feedback on power, drag and acceleration as a function of speed. Settings such as the number of wagons attached (0-5) and the slope of the marshalling yard (0-25‰) could also be adjusted to test the influence of variables. 🚉 ✅ Finally, when the locomotive was configured correctly, the visitors could send it out of the virtual workshop onto a route! 🔋⚡The aim is to adapt the power supply to the specific circumstances. For example, on lines that are no longer connected to electrified tracks, optional power sources such as hydrogen tanks, fuel cells or a combination of batteries can be used. In this way, disused lines can be reactivated. ➡️ Read more about the futuristic railbus concept, alternative drive systems, digitalisation and integrated mobility solutions Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. presented at the InnoTrans 2024: https://lnkd.in/ef7sQrDg #futuremobility #innotrans #VR #energysupply #train #mobilityresearch #NGT-TAXI
