MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory

We were delighted to host the launch of Fáilte Ireland's 5-year tourism development plan for Cork City, Harbour and East Cork yesterday.

A busy start to the week with the launch of a new 5-year tourism development plan for Cork City, Harbour and East Cork in MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory this morning and then onto my home county of Wexford this afternoon for the sod-turning of a new €1.2 million Water Sports Facility at Curracloe.   These are just two examples of Fáilte Ireland’s ongoing work to transform tourism destinations and the visitor offering right across the country.   All of this work doesn't just make our local areas better places to visit - it also makes them better places to live and this leads to happier, healthier and more vibrant communities.   The Cork City, Harbour and East Cork was developed with in collaboration with key stakeholders Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí, Cork County Council, local tourism industry, Port of Cork Company Ltd., Cork Airport, Chambers of Commerce, Leader, Local Economic Groups as well as local Communities.   The new water sports facility at Curracloe is being developed by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Wexford County Council. This project is part of Fáilte Ireland’s Platforms for Growth Scheme, funded under the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 strategy. Curracloe is the second Water Sports Activity Facility to begin construction under this scheme with a total of 19 facilities to be developed across 13 counties.

We were delighted to be chosen as the venue for the third lecture in the N-TUTORR Autumn Lecture Series, where we heard from Violeta Morari about Academic Integrity. The attendees had the opportunity to explore the observatory and see the state-of-the-art equipment in our new theatre, acquired through N-TUTORR funding, which we are very grateful for.
