A Journey to Recovery: SuPoshan’s Community-Based Interventions Helped an Undernourished Child Thrive In the crowded slum of Durga Chowk in Haldia Municipality, a SuPoshan Sangini encountered a two-year-old during a focus group discussion with local women. Noticing that the child looked pale, weak, and irritable, SuPoshan Sagini conducted an anthropometric assessment. His height (100 cm), weight (11 kg), and MUAC (12.3 cm) indicated severe undernutrition. Initially, the child’s mother was hesitant to seek help at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC). Instead of pushing, SuPoshan Sangini began counseling the mother on age-appropriate, nutritious foods that could be easily prepared at home using local ingredients. Her family counseling sessions empowered the mother with child-feeding skills and proper care practices. She also encouraged them to attend a 12-day Sneh Shivir, a nutrition camp organized by the SuPoshan Sangini, where she observed the child gained 150 grams. However, the child’s weight remained unstable, prompting SuPoshan Sangini to involve the entire family. This led to the child’s eventual admission to the NRC. After 21 days of specialized care, including treatment for liver complications, the child gained 520 grams and improved from SAM to MAM status. To support the child’s continued recovery, SuPoshan Sangini helped the family establish a rooftop kitchen garden, ensuring access to fresh vegetables. She also provided a WASH kit and taught the family hygiene practices to address recurring health issues. With regular follow-ups and support from the local Anganwadi centre, the child’s weight improved to 13.5 kg within six months. Reflecting on the journey, the mother shared her gratitude: “Thanks to Sangini’s support, my child is healthy today.” This story underscores the importance of community-based interventions in combating child malnutrition through personalized care and practical, sustainable solutions. Under the #SahiPoshanSeSuraksha campaign, Pragati educates about the foetal growth during pregnancy. She explains how the foetus develops in the womb each month and compares its size to various fruits and vegetables. With each month, the foetus requires specific macro and micronutrients to support optimal development. For instance, during the sixth month of pregnancy, the foetus's vision begins to develop, making it crucial for pregnant women to consume foods rich in Vitamin A, such as fenugreek leaves, papaya, tomatoes, muskmelon, carrots, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. Pragati further emphasises that along with a balanced and healthy diet, pregnant women should follow certain care practices to ensure a safe pregnancy. #SahiPoshanSeSuraksha is a three-month campaign that delves into important areas, such as anemia, obesity, diabetes, nutritional practices during pregnancy and lactation, including gender, social, and cultural norms that influence food and nutrition behaviours and practices. Join us every Tuesday to engage with Pragati and her family as we navigate through important conversations together. #AskPragati Disclaimer: Pragati and her family are AI-generated characters created for Poshan Ghar’s campaign. On 16th October 2024, the PG Secretariat hosted its first virtual workshop for its members on the “Basics of Proposal Writing.” Facilitated by Ms Saroj, Founder of the Zealgrit Foundation, the objective was aimed at providing practical guidance on creating well-structured, compelling proposals that communicate the value of projects effectively to funders and stakeholders. The 90-minute session saw active participation from 30 members. The workshop covered essential topics, including the types of proposals, key components, budgets and techniques for writing clear and effective proposals; followed by a few interactive analysis of proposal examples, where members analysed and applied the principles discussed on the sample proposals to identify both the strengths and areas for improvement. By the end of the session, members gained a deeper understanding of the core elements of strong proposals, presenting a compelling case for programmes support and avoid common writing errors. #ProposalWriting #PoshanGharWorkshops #ZealGritFoundation #JoinPoshanGhar Membership Form: https://lnkd.in/gnugrCN9) IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) Platform UNICEF India Sight and Life Social Changemakers and Innovators (SOCHAI) Bonita Sharma PAN International - Physicians Association for Nutrition Sambodhi Research and Communications Pvt. On September 26, 2024, over 60 employees from the CSRBOX group participated in an enlightening "Employee Well-Being Initiative" focused on anemia awareness and healthy eating habits. The session was expertly facilitated by renowned dietician Ms. Sweta Patel, who guided participants through the critical aspects of anemia, emphasizing the importance of iron-rich foods in combating this condition. Ms. Patel engaged attendees in a dynamic discussion about the deworming process and the significance of maintaining a balanced diet alongside regular exercise to counteract the effects of a sedentary lifestyle. The interactive nature of the session fostered meaningful dialogue, allowing employees to explore common food-related myths and misconceptions. For instance, participants learned that enjoying tea with breakfast is detrimental and discovered the nutritional nuances of popular dishes like palak paneer. This initiative not only equipped employees with valuable knowledge about nutrition but also inspired them to make informed dietary choices. As a testament to their commitment to healthier living, the employees of CSRBOX group pledged to embrace a lifestyle characterized by regular exercise and mindful eating. To further enhance this commitment, the session concluded with a voluntary hemoglobin testing provision, reinforcing the organization's dedication to employee health. This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of health awareness and well-being within the CSRBOX community, empowering employees to prioritize their health and make informed choices for a healthier tomorrow. #EmployeeWellness #Nutrition #Anemia #PoshanMaah IndiGive Foundation Rupsha Chatterjee Rajvi Parmar Bhomik Shah Shraddha U.
