It was great to have Aadil (Adiel) Chitalwala, Vice President at Peak Sustainability Ventures participating on the panel: "Financing the Sustainable Future: Exploring innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable projects in India" at Sanrakshan - The Business Sustainability Conclave! Aadil (Adiel) Chitalwala commented, "As important as it is for a founder to raise capital, it is equally important to know what type of capital is required at a specific stage and for what type of project. For instance, carbon credit projects typically require financing upfront in order to fund their development to a stage when they can sell credits in the market. On the other hand, new, cutting edge technologies in energy often require significant amounts of government funding for R&D prior to raising equity funding." This event, presented by IIM Lucknow - PGP Sustainable Management Centre for Business Sustainability, brought together experts from various fields to discuss the future of sustainable finance including: Aadil (Adiel) Chitalwala, Peak Sustainability Ventures | Sagar Asapur, Climate Risk Horizons | Dr. Abhinav Akhilesh, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP | Diksha Rathore, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). The session was moderated by Sanjeet Kumar De, Accenture. #Sustainability #Innovation #VentureCapital #IIMLucknow #SustainableInvesting #SANRAKSHAN2024 #SustainableManagement #ClimateChange #SustainableFinance #GreenFuture #IndiaSustainability

Peak's Monthly Book Review Session: How The World Really Works (Vaclav Smil) In our monthly book review session, the Investment Team at Peak Sustainability Ventures discussed 'How the World Really Works' by Vaclav Smil. The book offers a much-needed reality check - before we can tackle climate issues effectively, it's imperative that we understand the mechanics of our biosphere. How energy conversion actually takes place; what are the most efficient sources of energy; how do we produce food (at a granular level); why is nitrogen so critical; how do we decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors. We highlighted a few key statistics that we think should frame the discussion on climate change in the next decade: 1. Decarbonize Industry: Global production of the four indispensable materials (cement, steel, plastic, ammonia) claims about 17% of the world’s primary energy supply and 20% of all CO2 emissions originating in the combustion of fossil fuels. 2. Oversupply and Wasteage of Food: The world loses about half of all root crops, vegetables & fruits, one third of all fish, 30% of cereals, and one fifth of all oilseeds, meat & dairy. Furthermore, inedible household food waste is only 30% of the total, meaning that 70% of wasted food was in fact perfectly edible. 3. Economic Growth = Higher Emissions: Was there a single climate modeller who predicted in 1980 that the most important anthropogenic factor driving global warming over the next 30 years would be the economic rise of China? Our concluding thoughts: Climate is an evolving and complex space. Many under-the-radar industries have the potential for outsized impact. India is on the rise, and with it, there will be a commensurate increase in our proportion of global emissions. As a sector, climate investors have the potential to catalyze the ecosystem and make a significant impact with investments in climate solutions today. 🚀 To read more about our thoughts on the book, check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/dRs6dBNF Samir Shah | Sanjay Nayar | Aakash Shah | Aadil (Adiel) Chitalwala | Sarah Bhot, CFA | Swaraj Dharia | Ahana Advani | Rishi Rathi | Amay S. | Nikita Manoj | Maitreyi Menon #ClimateTech #Innovation #HowTheWorldReallyWorks #BookReview #VaclavSmil #Entrepreneurship #ClimateAction #Startups #Sustainability #VentureCapital #Environment #SustainableDevelopment #CircularEconomy
