📸 Photo from the 3rd World Power Conference, Detroit, 1936 🌍✨ Almost 90 years ago, the 3rd World Power Conference marked a key moment as the world pivoted away from coal towards electricity. It was a time of rapid energy transition and societal transformation, when electricity was revolutionising households and liberating women from the daily toil. In 1936, the spark of change was ignited. At the conference's heart was Caroline Haslett, the driving force behind the Woman's Electrical Association. As the only woman in the British delegation, she carried the torch for women's involvement in the energy dialogue. Following this historic event, a committee under the Women’s Engineering Society (W.E.S.) was established to represent women's interests in energy. This pivotal moment led to the establishment of the Electrical Association for Women, bridging the gap between energy and the potential female consumer. Electricity wasn't just illuminating homes; it was lighting the way for women's empowerment. And the impact of this energy transition could not just be seen as a technological transformation, but a societal shift towards equality. Fast forward to over 80 years later, and the World Energy Council continues to champion the role of women in energy. Today, we proudly stand under the leadership of our first female Secretary-General in our century-long history. Our member committees are establishing pioneering programs to create professional networks of women working in energy sectors, with World Energy Council - WEC Chile leading the way. As we honour our legacy, we continue to illuminate the path for women in energy, recognising their vital contributions in a dynamic industry. We embrace the past, present, and future - empowering women to shape a sustainable energy landscape. Together, let's power a future where women's empowerment remains at the heart of global energy transitions and societal transformations. 💡👩🔬💪✨ #womeninenergy #energytransitions #humanisingenergy #sustainability #energysystems
