【Experiment Moves from Omura Bay to Tokyo Bay with a Focus on "Creating the Hydrogen Supply Chain"】 - MOL's Wind Hunter Project ③ Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' (MOL) "Wind Hunter Project" is a zero-emission project utilizing wind power and hydrogen, and the Wind Hunter experiments using the experimental vessel WINZ MARU advanced to the next phase in October 2023. The Wind Hunter Project was selected for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Tokyo Bay eSG Project: Cutting-edge Renewable Energy Priority Project", and the testing fields moved from Omura Bay to the Central Breakwater area in Tokyo. The Tokyo Bay eSG Project aims to explore the "realization of a sustainable city where nature and convenience blend", using the Tokyo Waterfront City area (Daiba, Aomi, Ariake) which overlooks Tokyo Bay, and the adjacent Central Breakwater area. In addition to Wind Hunter, other priority projects include the development of flying cars and the establishment of autonomous driving technology using 5G. The main theme in Tokyo Bay is to experiment with various technologies to unload and supply the hydrogen energy produced and stored by Wind Hunter to onshore facilities. This means building a complete hydrogen supply chain from production to utilization and confirming the possibility of collaboration with related businesses. In May 2024, it was publicly showcased for the first time at "SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024*", hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, drawing significant attention from both stakeholders and the general public. As we continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the Wind Hunter Project, MOL remains dedicated to pioneering innovative renewable energy solutions. Our move to Tokyo Bay marks a significant step forward in our journey, allowing us to collaborate closely with leading researchers and businesses in the area. We are confident that these efforts will contribute to the advancement of a sustainable hydrogen supply chain and support the broader vision of a decarbonized society. *An initiative hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to promote "Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo = SusHi Tech Tokyo", which aims to create "sustainable new value". It seeks to generate innovations from Tokyo to address global urban challenges and present future urban models.

【Welcoming Mr. Dominguez from IMO to MOL office !】 International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez visited MOL, where Chairman Junichiro Ikeda and others explained their company's advanced initiatives toward safe operations and decarbonization. We also introduced MOL's Safety Operation Supporting Center which supports the ships from shore 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Currently, two people, including the captain on duty, monitor the movements of our company vessels, eliminate marine accidents caused by weather and sea conditions, and promptly implement security measures (such as piracy) and initial responses to marine accidents (including earthquakes and tsunamis). In addition, he visited Dynamic Positioning (DP) Simulator to provide realistic and immersive training experiences operated MOL Marine & Engineering (#MOLMEC). MOLMEC has launched a comprehensive suite of simulator-based new training courses tailored specifically for offshore vessels involved in offshore wind farm development with using DP Simulator. We would like to thank Mr. Dominguez for visting our office, and we hope his stay in Japan becomes a wonderful one! At Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' (MOL), we believe in setting new benchmarks in maritime operations, not just meeting them. With the introduction of FOCUS, we're ushering in a new era of vessel safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. FOCUS is more than just a digital tool- it's a comprehensive platform that integrates cutting-edge technology with decades of operational know-how to create safer, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly ship operations. FOCUS is a game-changer in the maritime industry. It’s an integrated system that collects up to 10,000 sensor data points per vessel from a fleet of approximately 270 vessels and reports information from about 650 vessels in total. This immense pool of data is analyzed using MOL's extensive operational experience, providing insights that drive the digital transformation (DX) of the ocean shipping industry. By meeting the diverse needs of shipowners, operators, and ship management companies, FOCUS plays a crucial role in improving safety, environmental and efficiency protection across the industry. The system’s architecture is meticulously designed to support the complex needs of maritime operations. FOCUS enables the collection and management of detailed navigational and engine data from vessels operating at sea. This data is then transmitted to a secure Amazon Cloud database, where it is stored and made accessible from various devices, including PCs, smartphones, and tablets. This flexibility ensures that stakeholders can access critical information anytime, anywhere. But the true power of FOCUS lies in its ability to turn data into action. By utilizing the collected data through various applications—such as automatic emailing, engine and machinery monitoring, and performance analysis- FOCUS improves safety, reduces environmental impact, and enhances operational decision-making. This is particularly evident in its ability to analyze the relationship between a vessel's fuel consumption and speed, providing clear insights that can be used to optimize operations and maintenance. As we continue to navigate the challenges of the modern maritime landscape, FOCUS stands out as a beacon of innovation and progress. It's not just about collecting data, it's about using that data to make smarter, more informed decisions that benefit the entire maritime ecosystem. With FOCUS, we're not just improving how vessels operate, we're setting a new standard for the industry- one that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and efficiency. This event was part of the 39th International Coastal Clean-up with the theme “Clean Seas for Blue Economy”—a global effort to protect the blue seas and their wildlife.   The event was scheduled from 06:00-10:00, and all participants were divided into teams and each team has their assigned either as Trash Data Encoder to track the types and amounts of trash we collected. This data will be crucial for understanding the waste that is impacting our waters, helping to shape future conservation, and strategies for waste management.   According to the Manila Public Information Office, everyone has managed to collect at least 12 truckloads of garbage from Baseco Beach. It felt so rewarding to be part of an effort that not only beautified the beach but also established the importance of environmental management and community participation. It’s a great way to raise awareness about keeping our beaches clean. Not only the beaches, but everywhere around us.   Overall, the event was a huge success and truly highlighted our commitment as MOL employees to sustainability, environmental causes and community engagement.
