Kenya’s leading digital credit provider Tala has joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. The company was welcomed to the global network during a certificate handover ceremony, marking a significant step in its commitment to responsible and ethical business practices. #Tala now joins over 24,000 companies worldwide that have aligned their strategies and operations with the #TenPrinciples of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Welcoming Tala to the initiative, Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) Executive Director Judy Njino commended the company for its leadership in financial inclusion and ethical business. She highlighted the vital role that fintech and financial institutions play in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) by using technology to expand access to financial services. Tala’s General Manager, Mumbi Annstella, expressed pride in Tala becoming the first digital credit provider in Kenya to join the UN Global Compact. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to democratizing access to credit for the global majority, particularly for MSMEs and women, further strengthening global financial inclusion efforts. As a UN Global Compact participant, Tala will benefit from various programs, including training sessions on corporate sustainability, access to the UN Global Compact Academy and library in addition to networking opportunities with businesses worldwide.
