  • Exciting Insights on Board Directorship! Dive into the transformative perspectives on board roles in the article by Business Today titled, "Redefining Board Directorship: A Career Capstone or Evolution?", where it features insights from Michele Kythe Lim, President and CEO of ICDM. It encapsulates the essence of the evolving complexities and dynamic nature of board directorship in today’s fast-paced business environment. In this article, Michele talks about: Adaptive Leadership: Effective leadership hinges on the ability to adapt to changes and maintain strategic oversight. Board Composition: A board should be diverse, independent, and possess a balanced mix of skills. Success Factors: Observational skills, competence, humility, continuous learning, and collaboration are essential for achieving a common vision of success. Diversity and ESG: Emphasising the significance of diversity, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, ongoing development, board culture, and succession planning. Chairperson’s Role: An effective chairperson is crucial for unifying different perspectives and leading strategic discussions. Nomination Process in Malaysia: While there is a structured nomination process prioritising formal qualifications and diversity, most board appointments still stem from personal connections or shareholder nominations. To address future challenges and skill gaps, boards are encouraged to utilise independent professional sources for talent sourcing. Corporate Governance (CG): Leaders must acknowledge the repercussions of poor CG and implement checks and balances at all levels. Governance Challenges: Arising from the survey done for the 2024 ASEAN Board Trends report, results point to critical threats and governance areas needing immediate attention to boost board effectiveness, including talent and leadership, geopolitical uncertainties, operational strategies, and board-management dynamics. Self-Governance: Boards must self-govern effectively to oversee their organisations properly, which includes a commitment to continuous learning and self-assessment. It's a must-read for current and aspiring board members who aim to navigate their roles with foresight and strategic insight. Read the two-part article and discover how directorship is not just a career milestone but an ongoing journey of growth and adaptation. • In today’s fast-paced digital world, our gadgets are practically our best friends, both at home and at work! Electronics are everywhere, from the smartphones we are glued to, to the computers and peripherals we can’t seem to live without. That’s why were super excited to team up with ERTH, a fantastic electronic recycling social enterprise as part of our corporate CSR exercise. ERTH is helping us to recycle almost 200kg of electronic items we amassed throughout our business. From items such as laptops, desktops, printers, cables and wires, phones, computer peripherals, old projectors, CPUs, and even a small vacuum cleaner! We are happy that these electronics will now find a new lease of life as we play our part, albeit small, in ensuring a sustainable future for our community. #CSR #RecycleElectronics #TechForGood #SustainableFuture #ERTHRecycling

  • In the dynamic world of financial services in Asia, our board faces various challenges—these range from economic concerns and staff management to resource allocation. Moreover, technology-related issues like cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming increasingly critical. On top of that, with the rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its subset, Generative AI, boards globally grapple with understanding how best to utilise AI while ensuring proper governance is being put into practice. Therefore, a calculated approach is a must. Moving too fast without sufficient clarity can amplify both traditional risks and new ones introduced by Gen AI; conversely, moving too slowly might make the organisation obsolete. Learn more on this in this article by Dr Alex Zarifis & Dr Larisa Yarovaya: How Leadership in Financial Organisations Build Trust in AI: Lessons from Boards of Directors in Fintech in Malaysia here: https://lnkd.in/gjv4C3u6
