The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, proudly supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 26 country and territory members: American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, France, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, United States of America, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna. In pursuit of sustainable development to benefit Pacific people, our unique organisation works across more than 25 sectors. SPC is renowned for its knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. Much of our focus is on major cross-cutting issues, such as climate change, disaster risk management, food security, gender equality, human rights, non-communicable diseases and youth employment. Using a multi-sector approach in responding to our members’ development priorities, we draw on skills and capabilities from around the region and internationally, and support the empowerment of Pacific communities and sharing of expertise and skills between countries and territories. With over 600 staff, SPC has its headquarters in Noumea, regional offices in Suva and Pohnpei, a country office in Honiara and field staff in other Pacific locations. We are a bilingual organisation, with English and French as our working languages. See www.spc.int

#ResilientPacific | At the 10th International Waters Conference (#IWC10), Pacific Island nations brought critical insights on water security and climate resilience to the global stage. 🚰 More than 45% of Pacific peoples still lack access to basic drinking water, and groundwater resources will play an important role in the future development needs and resilience of island communities. Discover how Pacific communities are driving water solutions and building climate resilience! 👉 https://bit.ly/3XSbrNf... featuring interviews with Pacific Island representatives at the 10th International Waters Conference (#IWC10). Hear firsthand as they share lessons learned, challenges faced, and their experiences at the conference in Uruguay. 💡 Two projects underway in the Pacific, the Managing Coastal Aquifers (MCA) Project, and the Pacific Volcanics Project, are leading the charge in identifying, developing, managing, and protecting these important freshwater resources to enhance the climate resilience of communities. By combining 50+ years of Pacific expertise with cutting-edge science, and innovation, we're securing access, and promoting sustainability, to fresh groundwater resources for our communities and future generations. 🗣️ “It’s about the people, the community, the faces of the children... who are impacted by the changes in climate.” — Lono Leneuoti Tuvalu National Project Coordinator, “Managing Coastal Aquifers" Project (MCAP). #PacificVoices #WaterSecurity #ClimateResilience #IWC10 #SIDS #LessonsLearnt #SustainableFuture 🤝 Global Environment Facility | IW:LEARN

#ResilientPacific | The #PARTneR-2 and Integrate Pasifika teams were in #Tonga for their final joint mission under the Pacific Risk Tools for Resilience Phase II Project. Guided by the National Emergency Management Office - NEMO Tonga (NDRMO), the team is conducting collaborative capacity building alongside the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA New Zealand) on the open-sourced tools, of #RiskScape (focusing on multi-hazard risk analysis) and the Pacific Resilience Nexus (PRN) platform as an integrated data infrastructure. Various ministries in Tonga are taking this opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and build capacity, empowering informed decisions on addressing natural hazard risks through the use of these tools; focused on country prioritized use cases of coastal inundation and tropical cyclones. ℹ️ Building on the PARTneR-2 initiative, Integrate Pasifika also seeks to strengthen peer-to-peer exchanges, fostering the sharing of knowledge and information at both national and regional levels. An initial aspect of this are the country consultations conducted, in order to understand the information & knowledge management landscape in Tonga. 🤝 The trainings and consultations have been made possible through funding from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT).

#PacificStats | This World Teachers’ Day, 5 October, we highlight the importance of qualified teachers in upper secondary education. ✏️🎓 In 2022, Nauru 🇳🇷 achieved a remarkable 100% of qualified teachers, showing their commitment to quality education. Tuvalu 🇹🇻 had less than 60% of qualified teachers in the same year, demonstrating the challenges in education infrastructure in the Pacific. Investing in qualified teachers is crucial for nurturing future generations and ensuring equitable access to education. They truly have one of the most important jobs in the world! 🍎 Explore more on educational insights through our Education Dashboard, part of the Pacific Data Hub (pacificdata.org). 📚 📊 Education Dashboard: https://lnkd.in/fVe2cDy 🔢 This dataset: https://bit.ly/3XOf9HD #PacificData #WorldTeachersDay #PacificEducation #StatOfTheWeek
