The UK has donated highly technical, non-lethal military equipment worth up to billion Naira to the Nigerian Armed Forces, further enhancing the ongoing partnership between the British Military and the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The donation supports Nigeria’s fight against violent extremist organisations in the North East of Nigeria.

The FCDO has officially launched a call for proposals for a new project, SANKORE, that will strengthen economic growth through science, Technology and innovation in Nigeria and Ghana. UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins announced the call for creative proposals for the project from non-profit organisations (including UN Agencies) at a press conference yesterday, 17th September 2024, in Accra. The Sankore call for proposals will support the UK government’s partnership with Government in Nigeria and Ghana on science, technology and innovation, facilitate commercialisation of innovative solutions, improve innovation policy and enhance government digital service delivery. Named after a West African medieval center of learning, Sankore will establish new partnerships worth up to £1.9 Million with non-profit organisations (including UN agencies) in Ghana or Nigeria. The UK Government, in partnership with United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), recently provided Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) training to 75 members of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers in Maiduguri, north-east Nigeria. The inaugural training which concluded on 4 October 2024, was designed to allow NPF and NSCDC officers to teach EORE techniques to members of at-risk communities so that they can share their knowledge more widely to reduce the harm caused by explosive ordnance.
