From Taiwan to Delft: Discovering Dutch Innovation with Mecanoo This month, we welcomed clients from the Taiwan Railway Bureau, the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), and the private developer SanFar from #Taiwan. In-person meetups are always the best way to bring people together, sparking inspiration and new ideas. As Mecanoo continues to expand its presence in Taiwan, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting several groups at our headquarters in #Delft. Together we visited several completed and under-construction projects across the Netherlands, providing a unique opportunity to immerse in Mecanoo’s culture. Yi - Hsuan Lin, Mecanoo’s Director of Asia and Lead Architect, brings vast experience from both Taiwan and the Netherlands. Her detailed comparisons and explanations of the differences between Dutch and Taiwanese design approaches offer our clients fresh insights and inspiration. Starting at Delft Station and City Hall, with its impressive vaulted ceiling depicting Delft's 1877 map, we head south to the city of Tilburg to explore the transformation of a former Dutch National Railways locomotive shed into the vibrant public library, LocHal. From there, we travel east to the recently completed Ede-Wageningen Train Station, where innovative design has turned an outdated structure into a welcoming, modern, and accessible hub for both locals and visitors. Afterward, we head back to Delft to visit the TU Delft Campus, home to some of Mecanoo’s most iconic projects, including the TU Delft | Library and Mekel Park.
