World Premier - Ongoing Voyage Just before the summer kicked in, the shipping desk here at Esgian released the first part of the Voyage Analytics (VA) Module - Completed Voyage. This gave insight into Scope 3 emissions and EU ETS cost for cargo owners as well as deep intelligence at the voyage level re transit times, intermediary ports, port waiting time and port stay. Now we are super excited to give birth to the second child in the VA family - Ongoing Voyage. This is a highly interactive module which allows our users to live track not only individual vessels, but entire operated fleets by shipping lines. Thanks to our strategic partners, Hesnes Shipping AS (RoRo) and Toepfer Transport GmbH (MPP), we provide our clients with unparalleled insight at the commercial operator level. This is important as cargo owners and freight forwarders (normally) do not have a contractual relationship with a vessel - but a shipping line. In our system today - we have over 220 shipping lines covered. From macro to micro and vice-versa, our VA module allows our clients to select, save and group vessels or operators that are important to them. Find a comfortable chair, bring out the popcorn and have a look what this is really all about: https://lnkd.in/dfycxdG3 PS: The picture is the complete trading pattern in the past month by one of the largest PCTC operators globally - can you guess which carrier? #insights #transparency #livedata #mpp #roro #shipping

European Automotive Market Intelligence Analyst | Unravelling the heterogeneous nature of the European passenger car market. Delivering direction behind the data

According to the go-to shipping logistical data platform Esgian, we can identify the delivery pattern of the #BYD #ExplorerOne #PCTC vessel in Europe as part of its second voyage here, having previously docked in the old continent during February 2024. The 7,000 CEU capacity vessel arrived in Las Palmas with a draught load of 95%, according to the logistical platform (although that takes into the fact ballast water is part of the draught measurement but gives an indication to load levels), suggesting the ship was likely close to its 7,000 capacity (previous journey saw a load of 6,000). According to FVL personnel we have spoken to, a stop at the Spanish Canary Islands en route to mainland Europe is not uncommon in the summer months and likely includes rental vehicles for the summer season. The next stop was Northern Spain, where we learned that 1,000 #PHEV BYD Seal-U SUVs had been unloaded. This is significant as it may indicate the Chinese are switching their short-term priority to non-tariff impacted models (PHEVs) with the #BEV tariff increase being retroactively introduced from July 5th, if passed by EU member states later this autumn: if not enough members form a qualified majority against the new levels! 🇪🇸 The third stop, the UK, was the maiden visit by the BYD vessel here 🇬🇧 This was also significant as the over 1,000 models unloaded here, as confirmed by an employee from the Associated British Ports, aren't subject to the EU tariff increase, translating to larger margin vehicles for the Chinese company. With the nature of the UK being a right-hand-drive market, however, we may need to wait slightly longer to see if Sino-companies will prioritise this market, given the lag from production to shipping to delivery The next two stops, Rotterdam and Bremerhaven, saw the greatest reduction in the "draught" of the ship according to the Esgian Shipping platform which suggests the bulk of the shipment, with likely around 4,000 models onboard being delivered here 🇳🇱 🇩🇪 Finally, the long port time in Bremerhaven (>100 hours) suggests a large backload is being loaded for the return journey to Asia. Although we have been informed that doesn't necessarily mean passenger cars but is more likely to include a high proportion of heavy agricultural vehicles. However, this doesn't automatically mean a backload to China as the vessel may still make another stop in Europe on its return or unload at a location back to China, such as Port Loius, where some of the load may be loaded into another vessel being transferred to other markets such as Australia etc. 🇨🇳 🇦🇺 More insights and nuanced background information checks like this can be found each month in our European Electric Car Study, which gives guidance on how the market REALLY IS PERFORMING and gives more planning security with reliable, holistic reinforced information All of that information, and I managed to get a test of an impressive BYD Seal into a packed morning schedule

🎉 The Proof is in the Pudding - SFC Accreditation for MPP Received 🥇 Esgian is very proud to receive official 3rd party Accreditation for our CO2 emission module not only for RoRo (received last year), but now also for the 2.400 + vessels we cover in the dynamic Multipurpose (MPP) segment! A big thank to Marcus Lomax and Smart Freight Centre for guidance, support and advise along the way. So what you may think? 🌳 This means our clients can use our data to calculate supply chain emissions (Scope 3) in their official reporting. We are also calculating EU ETS cost - on a voyage level and you're even able to see estimated bunker consumption per vessel per day. Our Voyage Analytics module will give you unparalleled insight into GHG emissions at both aggregated and very granular levels. Reach out to shipping@esgian.com to learn more. #sustainability #SFC #mpp #shipping #projectcargo #accreditation #scope3 #GHG #reporting

Esgian is very excited to welcome Bolloré Logistics (now CEVA Logistics) to the Esgian Shipping Suites for RoRo and MPP. "Bollore Logistics originally expressed some interest in the innovative solutions provided by Esgian for the calculation of CO2 emissions. After discovering the data and information available on Esgian Shipping Suite for RORO and MPP, Bollore Logistics decided to use it on a regular basis and there are now more than 10 members of our team worldwide who are using Esgian software. Main advantage is to have access to accurate and quality data for better decision making and providing our clients with best possible solutions. The software is user friendly and the team at Esgian have proven to be extremely agile and customer focused", says Yohan Beal, Head of Operations for Bolloré Logistics Asia Pacific. We thank Yohan and the Bolloré team for the vote of confidence and look forward working closely with this innovative global freight forwarder in the time ahead. The picture showcase this logistics provider's world-class capabilities with the Moorabool Windfarm Project featuring over 100 generators in rural Victoria, Australia. Utilizing MPP tonnage, a total of 13 voyages were completed between China and Australia - each carrying some 50.000 freight tons of cargo. Certainly "out of the box transportation" requiring "out of the box" solutions 💡

Size Matters... If you're following Höegh Autoliners on social media, it is hard to miss the launch of the Hoegh Aurora - the first in a series of 12 Ammonia ready PCTCs - this week. She is also now in our system - en route to Japan for her maiden voyage. With a CEU (car equivalent unit) size of 9.100 she is currently the largest car carrier in the industry - some 600 units ahead of her "older sisters" - the Horizon class having 8.500 CEU delivered in 2015-2016 period. Looking at the five largest operators in the Deep-sea space, the average CEU capacity varies between 6.100 - 6.800 CEU. So the Aurora class takes a big step - literary - up from this level. But it certainly does not stop there. According to our strategic partner, Hesnes Shipping AS, we expect to see a Y-o-Y increase in the average size of car carriers (newbuildings); from 7.250 CEU in 2024 to 9.325 CEU in 2028. The largest announced PCTC to date remain the 10.800 CEU series by Hyundai GLOVIS Europe. As such, the net capacity increase in the next 4-5 years will be substantial as not only are we looking at 200 + ships to hit the water, but the cargo carrying capacity of same is significantly higher than the current tonnage. #pctc #roro #shipping #fleetgrowth #insights #automotivelogistics

All Good Things come to an End? While putting the final touches on our new monthly reports for RoRo and MPP, we wanted to share below graph with our LI followers. So what do we observe? Overall, if cargo volumes are strong, shipping lines are able to rationalize their schedules meaning generally less port calls per vessel. As long as the ships are well utilized, fewer port calls mean lower operational costs and more efficient use of trading days. Below we see that eight out of the nine largest deep-sea operators saw increased average number of port calls in Q2 2024 vs Q1 2024. This may be an indication that we're heading for somewhat softer markets going forward. Will surely be very interesting to track this development going forward... which we of course will 😉 PS: The main reason why Toyofuji has relatively much higher port call frequency is simply because they do a lot of coastal moves in Japan being the carrier with the highest number of Japanese port calls with a safe margin. However, they are engaged in FE - Oceania, FE-US and FE - SEA service, hence considered a deep-sea carrier. Same is also (partly) relevant for Grimaldi having a larger share of European Short-sea operations than the other "usual suspects". Conversely, Gold Star Line is keeping a tight ship with overall very efficient trading pattern. #pctc #shipping #roro #automotive #efficiency #ports

More Efficient Operations in Global DeepSea RoRo While you're probably relaxing on a beach or otherwise recharging the batteries, it's always good with some vitamins in the form of market updates. 🗝 A key feature of the Esgian Shipping Suites is the careful consideration of vessel activity. Put short, a vessel can either be loading/discharging cargo in port of sailing in between same. However, when a vessel is waiting for port, canals etc you have an opportunity cost as the vessel is not producing transport work. 🎉 The past three years have indeed been one long party for the shipping lines operating in the RoRo deep-sea space which has been a combination of demand and restriction of supply. 📉 The graph below tells an interesting story - while the average vessel has spent close to 14% of her available trading time 2021 - 2024 (June) not in port nor sailing, it's clear that the situation - so far - this year shows improvement. #supplychain #roro #shipping #automotive
