Known for approaching his designs with an empathetic nature, South African-born architect, Philip Rutkiewicz has made New Zealand home, recently achieving architectural registration status 🎓 Phil R, who's just at home on two wheels as he is in front of REVIT software in Chow:Hill Architects' Tāmaki Makaurau studio, is particularly inspired by living building design and the ongoing adoption of sustainable design principles in the built environment. 🏢 A Registered Architect in his native South Africa as well means Phil is still very much a green and gold rugby supporter when the South African team take on the All Blacks! 🏉 Congratulations on your New Zealand registration Phil! https://lnkd.in/gQ3iA9n6

Inspired by the heart of Waikato, our design vision for Fonterra’s new Hamilton workspace in South Bloc was to create an office space that reflects the land, people, and spirit of innovation across the rōhe. Beginning with a vision that resonated deeply with Fonterra’s values: Connection, Equity & Diversity, Hauora & Wellbeing, Kaitiakitanga, Simplicity & Value, these principles were our North Star and guided us from the initial sketches to the final touches. Sustainability was a key focus throughout the project, with recycled materials used wherever possible, from benchtops to acoustic panels. A commitment which has been recognised with the project being named a finalist in the Property Council New Zealand Central Property People Awards Boffa Miskell Limited Excellence in Sustainability Award. Thank you to fellow project partners for ensuring the success of this commercial fitout: Beca, Fonterra, Marshall Day Acoustics, Maltbys Ltd, Livingstone Building NZ, On Fire The Building Intelligence Group. Transformation, innovation, and community came to the fore in the creation of Fonterra’s new workplace fitout – a commercial workspace design project that has been named a finalist in the Property Council New Zealand Central Property People Awards Veros Best Team Award. Tasked with revitalising 1800m2 of workspace across two levels in Hamilton’s South Bloc building to provide a new home for over 200 Waikato-based Fonterra staff members, the success of this high-calibre, large-scale project was anchored in a remarkable partnership between Fonterra (client), Chow:Hill Architects (architect) and Designwell (interior designer), supported by The Building Intelligence Group (project manager), Beca (building services and seismic engineer), Maltbys Ltd (quantity surveyor), OnFire (fire engineer), and Marshall Day (acoustic engineer). Local contractor Livingstone Building NZ brought invaluable 'boots on the ground' expertise, ensuring outcomes that exceeded expectations. The result is an exciting example of a modern interior fitout that depicts the ethos of New Zealand’s largest dairy co-operative, inspired by the theme, From Farm to Table, and brought to life by a truly Waikato team. We’re excited to welcome experienced Architectural Technician, Ryan Chambers back to our Chow:Hill Architects' Kirikiriroa studio. Having recently honed his design skills in the high-end residential and apartment architecture spaces, Ryan is utilising his extensive knowledge in BIM technology to contribute to our team’s project delivery. With 10 years experience, Ryan is well-equipped to lead project documentation, his skillset across all sectors including commercial and the public realm means he’s picked up where he left off, the only difference being he can now rival Doug Robinson’s handicap on the golf course! #meettheteam #celebratingourpeople #architecturaltechnician #chowhill #connectcollaboratecreate #shapingpossibilities #shapingcareers #30years

Meet the Team! Introducing Vicky Feng, a Registered Architect in our Tamaki Makaurau studio. Vicky’s personal experiences in humanitarian aid and associated research have given her a deep understanding of the importance of architecture and its role in society. A Registered Architect in our Tamakai Makaurau studio, Vicky's design inspiration comes from existing elements around the sites she works on. Outside of work, Vicky enjoys trying out new cheesecake recipes and making origami furniture. She also loves creating fairy tales for groups of children and watching their eyes light up as they get lost in the stories. Sometimes, the magic even works on her cats! #meetourteam #celebratingourpeople #registeredarchitect #aucklandstudio #nzdesign #nzarchitecture #connectcollaboratecreate #chowhill #shapingpossibilities #shapingcareers #30years

It’s been 10 years since the Chow:Hill Architects team completed one of the most significant parts of the Waikato Service & Campus Redevelopment (SCR) project - the Meade Clinical Centre. The $130million project involved renewal and expansion of intensive care, surgical, imaging and ambulatory clinic spaces on the Waikato Hospital site, as well as connecting to existing buildings and preparing the campus for future inpatient developments. With enhanced wayfinding and clinical flows, this five-level 32,000m² building connects existing and new floor levels with a multi-storey atrium, which uses natural light and vibrant colour to create a dynamic, uplifting public space.
