TOA Architects ⚔️ Kamo Marsh Landscape Architects Great day yesterday pitching for a new project in Otautahi alongside Danny Kamo and his team👌🏾
The purpose of an architectural pursuit is to improve human life. We believe in the significant influence the built environment has on our minds and lives. Successful buildings emit an intangible essence that serves to enrich our lives and enhance the landscapes they rise from. Architecture offers an opportunity for infinite variety, as varied as life itself, and the design is the formulation of a question to find the right answer. Concepts that inspire our architecture are drawn from your story, from the land, and from our rich history. The TOA Architects practice is instilled with Tikanga Maori, design that pivots on the Whenua, the land, and he Tangata, the people.

The Starship Foundation is honoured to conduct our work inside this beautiful space, so thoughtfully designed by TOA Architects. Only today, Starship's Māori Health team hosted their weekly hui inside Whiti Ora and said what a joy it is to be inside this building, the light, the colours which help give energy to their work. Congratulations and thank you 💜💛
Designed by TOA Architects, Whiti Ora is Starship Foundation's recently renovated research and innovation centre. Located at 111 Grafton Road, the design draws inspiration from a cultural narrative that was gifted to Starship by Dame Rangimārie Naida Glavish – a tale of the pīpīwharauroa bird who lays its eggs in the riroriro bird's nest, symbolising the care and nurturing that Starship provides to tamariki who are entrusted into their care. Shaw Contract Australia Color Frame carpet tiles were chosen for the flooring and designed as a wayfinding tool to guide people through the building, mimicking the niho taniwha pattern found in tukutuku panels. Artwork, vibrant colours and elements of nature create a therapeutic and engaging environment for children while representing Starship’s identity. TOA Architects have recently been honoured as Best of Region winners for the Whiti Ora project in the Shaw Contract 2024 Design Awards.👏 Find out more about the interior design here: https://hubs.la/Q02MZrMG0 #StarshipFoundation #WhitiOra #healthcareforchildren #tamarikicare #therapeuticenvironment #designingforhealthcare #interiorinspiration #notforprofit #Māoriart #NZculture #TOAArchitects #Jacobsen #awardwinningdesign

The 8 projects shortlisted for the Use of Colour prize reveal the most striking and vibrant entries that represent exemplary and creative use of colour in architecture, both inside and out. From a global indigenous learning centre in New Zealand with stories and histories embedded into its glass window wall, to a rail development in Australia that uses colour and form as tools for placemaking, and a vibrant skyscraper in China featuring a grid of multi-coloured exterior frames.
