Led by islands, for all islands.
About us
The Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) works to bring together island nations and nations with islands for conservation and sustainable development. GLISPA assists islands in addressing one of the world’s greatest challenges: to conserve and sustainably utilize the invaluable island natural resources that support people, cultures, and livelihoods in their island homes around the world. GLISPA is recognised by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) as a partnership to advance the implementation of the CBD 2010 biodiversity target, to reduce the rate of biodiversity loss, and the programmes of work on island biodiversity and protected areas.

The recent Small Island Developing State (SIDS) Conference, hosted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), resulted in a comprehensive "Resilience Roadmap" aimed at strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable island nations. The roadmap outlines strategies to address climate-related challenges such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and environmental degradation. Key agreements include enhanced early warning systems, increased investment in climate adaptation, and greater international cooperation to support these small island states in their fight against climate change. Our hearts go out to the Caribbean islands devastated by Hurricane Beryl. The impact of such natural disasters is deeply heartbreaking. Let's come together in support and solidarity during this challenging time. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in rebuilding lives and communities affected by the storm. Together, we can offer hope and help rebuild what has been lost. Let's stand strong with the Caribbean islands as they recover and rebuild their homes and lives.

#memberhighlight We're happy to welcome the Pacific Tourism Organisation to GLISPA! Since its inception in 1983, the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) has been pivotal in representing tourism across its 21 government members and 200 private sector members in the Pacific region. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SPTO Member Countries identified the urgent need to diversify tourism and revenue streams. This led to the Pacific Ecotourism Recovery Initiative, in collaboration with the Pacific Community and UNESCO, focusing on developing Geoparks to enhance sustainable tourism. Feasibility assessments have been conducted across selected sites like Samoa, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, and Fiji. Furthermore, aligning with the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework 2030, the SPTO, in partnership with the Tuvalu Department of Tourism and supported by UNDP, recently launched the Tuvalu Sustainable Tourism Policy 2022 – 2032, aiming to foster sustainable tourism practices in the region. If you're involved in travel and/or tourism in the Pacific, join the SPTO to support and contribute to their good work: https://buff.ly/4cllccO
