  • Our customers enjoyed improved capacity and 4G coverage at Rolling Meadows Music Festival in rural North Canterbury over the New Year. The music festival previously had low connectivity given its location, which proved challenging for festival goers and staff on-site. This year, we partnered with Rolling Meadows to provide one of our COWs (Cell-Site On Wheels) to keep customers connected, which meant they could keep in touch with loved ones over the New Year 💚

  • One NZ is proud to support the vital work of New Zealand’s emergency services with our work on the Public Safety Network’s new Cellular Priority service, ensuring when cellular networks get congested or degraded, frontline responders’ PSN-enabled mobile phones and devices get priority access to coverage.

A big thanks to Ministers Mark Mitchell and Brooke van Velden who joined us today to launch the Public Safety Network’s new Cellular Priority service at Wellington Free Ambulance. Thanks to this new service, when cellular networks get congested or degraded, frontline responders’ PSN-enabled mobile phones and devices get priority access to coverage ahead of others. Sending devices to the ‘front of the queue’ for coverage when responders are working in large crowds or during significant weather-related emergencies helps them get on with their urgent and often life-saving work. Following the on time and on budget introduction of the PSN’s Cellular Roaming service in 2023, the Cellular Priority service has followed suit and is now live. It has already been rolled out to more than 6,000 frontline responders with an anticipated 35,000 users by 2026. Thanks to Hourua, One New Zealand and Spark New Zealand who have worked together with NGCC and the emergency services agencies to deliver a globally-leading multi-network solution for New Zealand’s emergency services. Also, a big shout out from down under to TJ Kennedy and FirstNet, Built with AT&T in the USA who've been so supportive of the Public Safety Network’s cellular solutions. #PublicSafetyNetwork #ems #OneNZ #Spark #Hourua #Firstnet #WellingtonFreeAmbulance

  • Getting ready to head to the beach? As our GM Network Services Sharina Nisha explains, while many Kiwis are looking forward to switching off from work over the coming weeks, staying connected has never been more important than ever. But it is more likely to involve streaming a great show on TVNZ+ instead of checking emails! Last summer we saw around 30% uplift in mobile data usage, with spikes of over 50% during the Christmas and New Years Eve peaks, and expect the same this year. At the extreme end, last year mobile traffic in the beautiful Opito Bay in the Coromandel spiked at 306% higher than usual!   We want our customers to maintain great experience with the extensive traffic migration to holiday destinations, and our teams have been working hard over the past few months to prepare.    Over the holidays, we’ll have teams rostered on to monitor the network 24/7. This includes increased monitoring and capacity management at 25 shopping malls, major airports and ports - and moveable cell sites at big events, such as Northern Bass, Rhythm and Vines and Rolling Meadows, plus busy beach locations such as Whangamata. • Coverage like never before is here! Around 40% of our land area in Aotearoa New Zealand currently has no traditional mobile coverage, leaving many places isolated and out of reach. Now, eligible One NZ customers living, working, and playing in some of the remotest parts of our country will be among the first in the world to enjoy a new technology with the launch of our initial One NZ Satellite TXT service - in partnership with Starlink, engineered by SpaceX. One NZ is proud to be the first globally to launch a nationwide Satellite TXT service powered by Starlink, helping New Zealanders to be better connected, safer, and more productive. Calling all Hastings locals and visitors! Our new One Hub store has opened just in time for the holiday season.   Our relocated store is in a great location close to the main shopping strip. If you’re a small business customer, we’ve created a space that teams can work from, with a meeting room for both our business and consumer teams to utilise. Even more, we have designed our salon space to be able to host after hours events!   To get a little techie, and as always with our new stores now, we are running on a high-performance SD WAN network. This store also has a variety of resilience measures in place so we can keep serving our customers in case of power outages or natural disasters.   Stop by if you’re in Hastings anytime soon! #BetterConnected Chris Fletcher Pooja Patel Shane Woods Jason Paris

  • Throwback 5 years ago… on 10 December 2019, we became the first telco in NZ to launch a #5G network. Now, 53% of where Kiwis live and work has 5G coverage (based on population coverage) - a metric that continues to grow as we build and upgrade more cell sites around Aotearoa. And we didn't rest at being the first in NZ to launch 5G (and 4G!).... we're now gearing up to be one of the first companies globally to launch a satellite connectivity service, in partnership with Starlink Direct to Mobile from SpaceX. Pictured here is Thaigan Govender, MEngNZ GM Mobile Networks, officially 'switching on' our 5G network alongside Mana Williams, representing youth advisory non-profit VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai, a long-term partner of Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation. Also pictured is CEO Jason Paris with Rob Cochrane, who was then NZ Police Chief Information Officer. Blast from the past! #BetterConnected

“The safety of our drivers is our priority, so whether it’s a breakdown or accident, we want to make sure we can stay in touch. "If the driver for any reason feels unsafe, this new service will allow them to send a text and let someone know. This complements our existing SOS driver app that works when in a coverage area,” says Ingrid Cronin-Knight, chief growth and sustainability officer at WM New Zealand. Great read in The Spinoff today by Jihee Junn, complemented by awesome illustrations from Toby Morris. Sharina Nisha also explains why bringing mobile coverage to the far reaches of New Zealand has been one of the most exciting projects of her career. “I never could’ve imagined we’d be using satellites to provide coverage to some of the country’s most remote areas, and we are doing it now. It really is a groundbreaking innovation.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gM6SMSvR

  • Testing continues across New Zealand, and our teams have been on a four day South Island road trip as we work towards launching our One NZ Satellite TXT service.   Reuben Billings, Head of Product Development, caught up with Queenstown retail lead Max Maynard in the mountains south of beautiful Glenorchy near Queenstown. This is where iconic scenes for Lord of the Rings were filmed, now satellite messaging has been tested.   It’s really important that we get out into the far reaches of Aotearoa as part of our efforts to enable mobile coverage via space and our teams have been testing in stunning locations. Check out that view!

  • Every month, New Zealanders give away $100,000 to charities using our One Good Kiwi app, including Kindness Collective Foundation. Yesterday, a group of One NZ employees experienced first-hand The Kindness Collective's great work while volunteering at the Auckland Christmas Joy Store, New Zealand’s first social toy store. Parents and caregivers referred by a social agency get to visit the Store to choose gifts and treats for their children, shopping for free and picking items they know their kids will love. If you haven’t downloaded the One Good Kiwi app yet, get it today on the App Store here: https://lnkd.in/gW3t7m5p, or Google Play here: https://lnkd.in/gPb-5Vmn.
