    Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is officially a Great Walk! 🥾 🌿 International manuhiri (visitors) are drawn to New Zealand for our landscapes, with 77% of international holiday visitors doing a walk or tramp while they are here. Growing the network of Great Walk options for manuhiri is a win for tourism. 60% of those seriously considering a trip to New Zealand are interested in multi-day walks with overnight stays in a lodge, hut, or camping. We’ll keep showcasing our beautiful outdoor offerings to entice international visitors to our home.     The Tourism New Zealand Business Events team are back from #IMEX24 America in Las Vegas, the region’s largest trade show for the meetings, events and incentive travel industry. The show celebrated record-breaking attendance, and New Zealand had its largest ever representation on stand, with 11 partners showcasing what makes New Zealand an amazing incentive and conference destination. We’re helping international audiences understand our kiwi culture in a fun A-NZ on how to live like a local in New Zealand. The A to Z aims to encourage potential visitors to deepen their emotional connection with the people, places and culture of Aotearoa and entice them to choose New Zealand as their next holiday destination.     Thank you to all those who came along to our industry workshops in Rotorua and Christchurch in late September! The workshops aimed to support industry to attract more international visitors during the off-peak season (March–November). We discussed planned offshore activities and platforms and partnerships to help operators showcase their products to more consumers. The groups then explored how TNZ, RTOs, and industry can work together to boost off-peak arrivals and tackle seasonal challenges. Riwai Grace, Lead Guide and Owner at Āmiki Tours | Indigenous Storytellers | Cultural Food Tours who participated in the Christchurch workshop, said “the interactive workshop was a great opportunity to stay relevant, share our ideas and continue to collaborate across the sector,” he said. “Āmiki loved hearing that we are aligned with the vision to promote Aotearoa across all seasons.     Recent activity in Japan helped to increase the number of people who have New Zealand as their number one destination. The campaign was based on the Japanese concept of ‘Tabipa’, highlighting the high-value, emotionally rich travel experiences that visitors can experience many times during a trip to Aotearoa. The activity showcased the warmth of New Zealand locals, our delicious food and wine, iconic landscapes, unique culture, and exciting outdoor activities.  It generated around 730 pieces of news coverage in Japan, resulting in $16 million NZD in estimated advertising equivalent.     Last week the New Zealand Business Events Awards 2024 celebrated 40 industry leaders and academics who have won 31 international conferences worth $48.7m for New Zealand 🏆. The conferences are expected to bring 19,500 delegates to our shores. Business events attract visitors who bring valuable knowledge, networking opportunities and an economic boost to New Zealand. 83% business events attendees arrive between March and November, New Zealand’s off-peak seasons.     This World Tourism Day, we’re celebrating the incredible work of the Manaaki Rangers on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, one of New Zealand’s busiest day walks. High numbers of visitors can put pressure on this beautiful and culturally significant environment. In partnership with local hapū Ngāti Hikairo ki Tongariro of iwi Ngāti Tūwharetoa, the Department of Conservation (DOC) has implemented the Manaaki Rangers programme. These dedicated guardians help visitors to protect the environment and the cultural values of Tongariro, by promoting responsible and respectful tourism to visitors. The Manaaki Rangers embody the spirit of manaakitanga—showing kindness, respect, and care for all visitors. This initiative aligns with New Zealand’s Tiaki Promise, encouraging everyone to travel responsibly and with an open heart and mind.     To entice visitors to Aotearoa New Zealand during our off-peak seasons, we showcased some of New Zealand’s best kai (food) under the starlit winter skies of Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill, South Island). Food is the number one topic of interest for 85% of potential travellers from our top markets – and we know our exquisite cuisine is worth the trip. Here are some of the culinary delights that were served and the local producers who grow and supply them.     Congratulations to Kinross who took out the 2024 Qualmark New Zealand Wine Tourism Award! 🍇 🍷 The award recognises the significant role that wine tourism plays in New Zealand’s visitor economy and gives special attention to vineyards that offer excellent and sustainable tourism experiences, celebrating people and place. To improve their visitor experience Kinross worked with cultural advisors to create tailored experiences for different markets, they have a 2030 carbon zero goal, provide comprehensive disabled access across all their venues and free lunches to their staff.
