Tourism New Zealand worked with the tourism industry, mana whenua groups, Warner Bros’ and Mojang Studios to create a world-first destination New Zealand DLC (downloadable content) in Minecraft, launching 19 March in anticipation of A Minecraft MOVIE premiering 4 April. The opportunity for destination New Zealand is huge. Minecraft, the best-selling video game with over 300 million copies sold, has an audience of 70 million among the 155 million people seriously considering a visit to New Zealand from our key visitor markets. 85% of them are interested in experiencing Aotearoa through Minecraft! Our campaign will leverage the launch of the game and A MINECRAFT MOVIE, and target those 70 million people, and we expect to deliver $50 million in EAV and $50 million in visitor spend this year as a result. To build desire for New Zealand as a year-round destination in the UK, we’ve launched a partnership with Russ Cook aka The Hardest Geezer. Russ - known for running extraordinary distances - is a cultural icon in the United Kingdom and it will be fantastic having him on our shores. He'll be running the length of the country, showing off New Zealand from end to end to his audience of over two million people. This project launched overnight in the UK and has already generated hundreds of pieces of coverage and some great reach through Russ’s channels. Check out Russ on Sky News: https://lnkd.in/g8AFMfTr

We are proud of our partnership with TupuToa, which creates pathways for Māori and Pasifika in New Zealand corporates. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from our two newest interns Irihāpeti Moffat (Te Ati Awa) and Hannah Carney (Ngāpuhi), who started in our Wellington and Sydney offices. Irihāpeti will be supporting our Tiaki – Care for New Zealand, cultural capability and social media mahi and Hannah will be working with the Australian public relations team. We’ve refreshed our 100% Pure New Zealand Specialist Programme to educate travel sellers on New Zealand as a year-round destination. This supports TNZ’s four-year strategy to grow year-round and off-peak arrivals. 35% of all tickets sold to New Zealand are booked through travel trade, so it’s important that travel sellers understand how to plan a holiday for their clients during New Zealand’s three off-peak seasons. Ever heard of a pint-sized crustacean named after a brewery? Meet Pentaceration forkandbrewer! 🍺 🦐 Tourism New Zealand Business Events team supported Wellington to host the 10th International Crustacean Congress. During the conference NIWA ran ‘The Crustacean Beer Competition’ in a push to encourage the community to engage with our marine life. Eight local breweries created a beer inspired by the tiny creature, with the 200 international delegates voting Wellington’s Fork and Brewer the winner! A great example of business events leaving lasting and sometimes quirky legacies for their host country. Aotearoa New Zealand’s waterfalls come alive in spring, ngāhere (forests) hum with bird song and leaves burst open on the grape vines. It’s a beautiful time to enjoy our great outdoors and our flora and fauna as the weather warms up. We’re showcasing all that Aotearoa New Zealand has to offer across our seasons to encourage visitors to come here all year round. What’s your favourite spring activity in Aotearoa New Zealand? 🌸 🌱 🐧
