Queenstown Airport is proud to have entered the global Airport Carbon Accreditation programme at Level 4+ 'Transition'. Since undertaking our first carbon audit in 2019, we have reduced our operational absolute emissions by 71% and are targeting an 85% reduction by 2028. That progress is based on a commitment to electrification, transition to a certified renewable electricity supply, upgrading of assets and infrastructure to increase efficiency, and a decision to stop using a diesel generator for supplementary power during periods of peak demand. Aviation is a challenging industry to decarbonise. We've set ambitious sustainability targets and invested heavily to reduce our carbon footprint as quickly as possible, although there is a lot more work to be done. We are now setting our sights on Level 5, which is the highest tier in the ACA programme. Collaborating with the next generation! We've partnered with a class of Year 10 students at Wakatipu High School in a bid to design a better luggage trolley suited to our destination and the unique needs of our customers. Students will be guided through the project over Term 3 as part of a design and visual communication course. Genevieve Small, Head of Learning Area Technology, welcomed the collaboration. "It's a wonderful opportunity to present students with an authentic design challenge." Todd Grace, Acting Chief Executive says "We're excited to see what clever ideas emerge from this competition and to celebrate the talent within our community." Students from across the region can enter to share their ideas. Find our more at: https://lnkd.in/gJuA2XWY #Innovation #DesignThinking #QueenstownAirport

Here's to a perfect pairing! Today, we're excited to welcome KiwiHarvest as the newest member of Queenstown Airport's partnership programme. We've committed to providing $25,000 a year for three years to help build the resilience of KiwiHarvest in the Southern Lakes region. The charity tackles two big problems with one clever solution: rescuing food before it goes to waste and redistributing it to those in need. We're big fans of the work they do and proud to have a tangible way to show our support. #ZQNPartner #CommunityFirst #QueenstownAirport #KiwiHarvest #FeedMoreWasteLess Read more about the partnership here: https://bit.ly/3Wwe1aS

Qantas has this week published a change to its schedule on flights operating between Queenstown and Sydney, with the current late evening service now departing in the early morning. The change will provide more convenient connectivity for Queenstown customers forward travelling to other destinations on the Qantas network enabling same-day transit on a range of international routes via Sydney. Queenstown Airport Acting Chief Executive Todd Grace says “We are pleased to support Qantas’ schedule change on its Queenstown to Sydney service. The majority of trans-Tasman flights depart Queenstown in the afternoons, this additional flight offers an evening arrival and an early morning departure providing greater flexibility for locals and visitors alike. Preparations at Queenstown Airport have been under way for some months, and we’ve appreciated the collaborative approach from our colleagues at New Zealand Customs and the Ministry of Primary Industries to accommodate this change.” “There has been an increase in trans-Tasman passenger numbers this year, compared to last, so we’re confident this new service will be a welcome addition to the schedule.” https://lnkd.in/gBCC3BGD

Today we launched a ground-breaking partnership with our colleagues from the Southern Airports Alliance (Dunedin Airport and Invercargill Airport Limited) and the eight southern Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) under the banner of Southern Way. Supported by Air New Zealand, the initiative encourages people to use the airline's multistop booking tool to fly into one of the three airports, rent a vehicle to explore the region, then fly out of another. “We’re excited by the opportunities this opens up, and we believe there are real benefits for everyone in spreading visitors widely around the region, rather than having them concentrated in a few hotspots,” Queenstown Airport Acting Chief Executive Todd Grace says. “This is a meaningful way of supporting the regenerative tourism aspirations of our community and the lower South alongside Dunedin and Invercargill airports.” Learn more about the campaign partnership here: https://lnkd.in/gm9TVqjN #RegenerativeTourism #Collaboration #OneTriptoSeeitAll
