And a lastminute surprise cameo guest star to add extra gravitas from across the pond - Reid Hoffman. Good to see UK government engaging with tech leaders about how to stay ahead and keep the UK the best place in Europe to start & scale a business & lead in AI : Some topics covered : - how to use more AI in government, more procurement from startups and more AI benefits diffused across society. Ie not just for city dwellers but also for those in towns to reap the benefits. - AI adoption within corporates (see WPP , Mark Read with 30,000 employees using their AI tools) - AI training and skills (Euan Blair & Multiverse expanded to govt…. - how to have the best and simplest regulatory environment, fintech/insuretech/AI etc (TS Anil of Monzo Bank , Paul Taylor of Thought Machine, Sten Saar of Zego, Charlie Bryant of Houseful ) - picking up on the spending review how tech can help - & Pat McFadden speech about how attract brilliant talent to do a tour of duty in the UK govt. - We also discussed the EU inc intiative and how it could help entrepreneurs scale across the EU, and benefit Europe as a whole!   • Like our colleagues at Founders Law, we are very intrigued to see what the new government will do with regard to the changes to unfair dismissal requirements that they have promised, and how it affects the process during probation. Watch this space!

    So. according to the Financial Times, Labour’s plan to introduce day 1 unfair dismissal rights will be subject to employers being able to keep new hires on probation for up to six months. I imagine businesses will be immediately amending their template contracts to increase their probation periods if they don’t currently have this provision or use a shorter length! I am intrigued to see what the draft Bill actually says around what will be required for a fair dismissal during those 6 months. In particular, will a formal process need to followed and how much opportunity to improve/training will need to be offered if there are performance concerns. I suspect the draft Bill will not include much detail around this either, but I will keep you posted if/when more information becomes available. #employmentlaw #unfairdismissal #probation
