  • A big shoutout to everyone who came by 27 Ann Siang last week for our first (of many) AMA sessions. Uncovering Singapore's untold stories means we meet some fascinating people—ones with sharp insights, unexpected truths, and perspectives worth listening to. It’d be a shame to keep those conversations to ourselves, so expect to see more in the coming months!

🚀 RICE Dialogues: AMA with A Singaporean Working in NASA 🌌 Did you know there are currently 4 Singaporeans working at NASA? 🤯 I had the incredible opportunity to attend an AMA session, and the insights shared were truly inspiring. Here are some of the key takeaways: 1. Space Science > Astronomy 🌠 Space Science is a much broader and more integrated field, bringing together the expertise of scientists and engineers working together to tackle complex challenges in space exploration. It’s a multidisciplinary approach that transcends traditional astronomy. 2. NASA = A Village of Professionals 🛠️👩🔬👨🔬 While NASA is globally recognised for its space missions, it’s the teamwork and collaboration among scientists and engineers etc. that makes it all possible. For instance, Goddard Space Flight Center is home to the largest group of professionals dedicated to building the technology to explore Earth, the Sun, and beyond. 3. Singapore’s Role in Space 🇸🇬 Singapore is making significant strides with its additional $60M injection into the space sector — particularly Earth observation initiatives. This investment is driving innovation and strengthening our capabilities in space exploration and technology, helping to position Singapore as the key player in global space industry. As Mr. Gang Kai Poh aptly put it, “Impactful Science outweighs Incremental Science.” It’s not just about about making a small advancements - it's about creating meaningful change that leaves a lasting impact. Big thanks to the RICE Media for organising such an insightful session. The future of space exploration is looking brighter, and Singapore is playing an important role in that journey. 🌟 #RICEDialogues #SingaporeansAboard #SpaceScience #NASA #NASAGoddardSpaceFlightCenter #SpaceExploration #Innovation #DataScientist #ResearchScientist #Singapore

How does RICE Media decide what stories to pursue? They make the decision by asking themselves a couple of questions: - Do pple care? - Why do pple care? - Is the story relevant? - Is it timely? - Has anyone covered the angle? Thanks to the team for sharing the inner workings of the editorial team and insights from publishing stories the past year. I especially liked the discussion and sharing on censorship 🫣 And thanks to Audrey Ying L. for letting me know about this event! #media #communications #journalism #ricemedia #singapore #ccpn

From endless morning routines to biohacking your way to 'peak performance,' the pursuit of being your best self is starting to feel less like progress and more like relentless obligation. In an age driven by data and online influence, what does it truly mean to optimise ourselves—and at what cost? At RICE Media's Alt Ctrl Health panel discussion on self-optimisation last week, our panellists dived into the science behind our push to improve ourselves and the commodification of wellness trends. Together with RICE Editor-in-Chief Ilyas Sholihyn, panellists Shravan Verma, MD, Dr. Arun Jayaraj, MBBS, and Tyen Ying Rasif unpacked topics ranging from the neuroscience of habit formation to the privilege embedded in accessing better health, dissecting how Singaporeans navigate the narratives around their bodies and minds. If last week’s discussion was anything to go by, the next Alt Ctrl Health event promises even deeper insights and bold conversations in the mental health realm—stay tuned for more events at 27 Ann Siang! 📸: Nicholas Chang, Justine Ong / RICE Media

A big thank you to all the amazing folks who joined us in the first Date Nights with RICE Media at 27 Ann Siang! Led by Julian Wong and Bibiana Lim, attendees explored the art of journaling, learning how to let thoughts flow freely onto the page as a powerful tool for self-reflection. Between insightful prompts, creative exercises, and meaningful discussions, everyone left inspired and a little more in tune with themselves. We can’t wait to see you all at the next one on Nov 6—a book club for people who don't read enough: https://bit.ly/48o3eW1

This RICE Media story was inspired by my friends who were unafraid to chase their dreams. Some weren't successful and returned to corporate employment, but are now armed with priceless life experiences. They sorely missed the security and benefits of being employed, and I wanted to glean from them what wisdoms they had acquired. Let's stop inculcating a fear of failure and emphasising the shame attached to it. Let's nurture an environment of courage, where failure implies growth. https://lnkd.in/gUxgxFfT

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?? Christel Goh shared this instagram post from RICE Media and touched me emotionally... It was a post about Singaporean entrpreneurs who failed and return to epmployement. 𝗔𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿, 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲... If you have not failed as a marketer, you have not tried. I have had projects that failed, clients lost and I felt that I let everyone down, including my team and family... Here is my Singaporean connections LinkedIn had to say about failure... Everyone has fear—of being judged, failing, succeeding, or not living up to expectations. The key is not to let fear interfere with your actions. Push through it. Benjamin Loh, CSP Reframe your Inner Talk. Replace “What if I fail?” with “What if I grow? Ratna Juita It’s OK to “fail.” While the “Fail fast!” mentality of startups might sound strange, expecting failure could actually be seen as a method for success. Dr Timothy Low ,PBM,Author,CEO,Board Director 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 happens when we stop moving forward. Even when progress is slow, perseverance is what turns dreams into reality. Khan Loon Tang 陈康伦 Here is how I approach failure now... 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 Do not blame, admit your failures and take responsibility. 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 Start by accepting that failure is part of the journey. Acknowledge your feelings but don’t let them define you. This acceptance will free your mind to focus on moving forward. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 Shift your perspective to see failure as an opportunity to learn. Ask yourself what lessons you can take away from the experience. Many successful entrepreneurs have faced setbacks—your journey is just beginning! 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 Finally, perform a retrospective analysis. Identify what went wrong and what you could have done differently. This reflection helps you gain clarity and prepare for future success, turning setbacks into valuable lessons. Do not dwell on it though! #failure #entrpreneurship #journey

"Offering help isn’t just about throwing advice at people—it’s about knowing how to do it without stripping away their independence or making them feel small. Because, at the end of the day, no one likes being talked down to." A really good read from RICE Media about the importance of open conversations and oral persuasion when encouraging seniors around us to head to the hospital or polyclinic. While healthcare professionals are trying their best to bridge the gap with their elderly patients, we as children (or grandchildren) can also play our part in communicating with our loved ones to address the reasons behind their hesitancy and, ultimately, alleviating their concerns. After all, if the shiny new hospitals and polyclinics are shunned by those who need them the most, whatever impact they could have would be fairly limited. Thankfully, we can all chip in to help 😊 https://lnkd.in/gHhVpQnS
