At this end of the year, I find myself
looking back on the moments that shaped 2024, and my visit to Istanbul stands out as a highlight. Turkey is cementing its place as a key player in the global yachting market, and the Superyacht Summit Türkiye in Istanbul was a proof to its growing influence. With 132 yachts under construction—securing its spot as the second-largest yacht builder globally—the fast-paced energy of 400 participants at the summit organized by Oğuz Bilgin and Bogdan G. was unmistakable: a market is on the rise, blending innovation, tradition, and most of all, an open and welcoming approach.
Key themes set the tone for the year ahead. From addressing cultural workforce challenges (like why working at Starbucks is seen cooler than working in a shipyard) and expanding facilities to meet the demand for megayachts, to embracing the adventurous spirit of explorer yachts (an owner’s quest to the eternal fountain of youth by Maximon - The Longevity Company Builder), the industry is also tackling next-generation topics such as sustainable fuels and design, branding, flexibility, and the integration of blockchain in cryptocurrency, and AI.
I fully share the passion of Levent Baktir for elevating the role of the crew and applaud Memetti Superyacht Agency and H Serhan Cengiz for pioneering traditions through organizing the boat shows and conferences from chartering to mental health.
The event venues definitely mirrored Turkey’s unique appeal: the timeless elegance of Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul alongside the cutting-edge design of 2PlanTerminal and Anna Laudel Gallery, which beuatifully combined nomadic and digital art. Our cruise on Halas 71—a historic yacht from an era when boats were made of wood and men of iron—added a sense of nostalgia and grandeur to the experience.
Like Holistic Yacht Interiors, I couldn't help to feel that Turkey is a country destined to connect, bridging tradition and the future and its message is clear: they are not just part of the conversation—they are shaping it. Bring on 2025, I´ll be there!!!
