A community of social and behavior change professionals working to address health and development issues.
About us
Social behavioral change campaigns have the power to positively transform the lives of countless Africans. However, we noticed that most SBC interventions have a short lifespan and it was important to create a skilled community, a reference point(knowledge hub) to support sustainability as well as scalability of SBC innovations.

Whoever you are, protecting and promoting breastfeeding is your responsibility 🤱👶🏾
Breastfeeding is a shared responsibility. Families, communities, healthcare workers, policymakers, and other decision-makers all play a central role by: 💙 Increasing investment in programmes and policies that protect and support breastfeeding through dedicated national budgets. 💙 Implementing and monitoring family friendly workplace policies, such as paid maternity leave, breastfeeding breaks and access to affordable and good-quality childcare. 💙 Ensuring mothers who are at-risk in emergencies or under-represented communities, receive breastfeeding protection and support in line with their unique needs, including timely, effective breastfeeding counselling as part of routine health coverage. 💙 Improving monitoring of breastfeeding programmes and policies to inform and further improve breastfeeding rates. 💙 Developing and enforcing laws restricting the marketing of breast-milk substitutes, including digital marketing practices, with monitoring to routinely report the Code violations.” #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #BestStartInLife

Cela fait quelques semaines depuis notre révolutionnaire #AfricaSBCSummit24. Do you have any key takeaways to share with us! 𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿! Engaging the private sector in social and behavior change (SBC) initiatives is often overlooked, yet it is crucial for fostering sustainable development and impactful change. During our 3-day engagement, we gained some valuable tips from inspiring leaders on how to improve our private sector engagement. Try these out- 🔦Strategic collaborations: 🎙️Norkor Akua Duah, MD MullenLowe Global-Ghana, underscored the importance of a strategic, step-by-step approach when collaborating with the private sector. She reminded us that while projects may have endpoints, the ongoing work in SBC continues, necessitating a long-term vision and sustainable impact. 🔦Ethical alignments: 🎙️Saba Amdework from Zeleman Communications-Ethiopia, pointed out the ethical considerations in aligning private sector interests with SBC goals. She emphasized the need for HCD approaches (co-creation sessions) to deeply understand and leverage private sector motivations, finding common ground and engagement opportunities that benefit all parties. 🔦Creating sustainable value chains: 🎙️Delilah Takawira, Senior Technical Advisor at FHI 360-Zimbabwe, shared insights on the Takunda project, which engages food producers and processors to generate income and profits while ensuring families have access to nutritious food. This initiative exemplifies a sustainable and beneficial value chain for all stakeholders. 🔦Ensuring lasting impact: 🎙️Lesly Marange CEO of Glytime Foods, highlighted their efforts to build farmer capacities, ensure food safety and quality, and establish fair pricing mechanisms. These elements are essential for maintaining the interests of all parties involved and ensuring a lasting impact beyond the project's duration. How are you uniquely engaging the private sector in your SBC interventions? #SocialBehaviorChange #SBCatFHI360 #PSE

Last week the 1st Africa Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Virtual Summit took place (2-4 July, 2024) and I have had the honor to participate as the Egypt Country Chapter Lead for AS-SBC. Speakers from all around Africa and around the world convened to discuss, explore and share the latest SBC knowledge and experience with a local African context. Egypt 🇪🇬 had a strong representation starting Day 0: (Pre- Youth summit) with our youth Farah Korayem being the overall facilitator for the day, then on Day 1: Dina Heikal (Social and Behavior Change Specialist, UNICEF Egypt) giving her keynote speech diving into “UNICEF’s pathway towards the institutionalization of SBC, successes, challenges, and lessons learnt” along side Massimiliano Sani (Senior Advisor, Social and Behavior Change, UNICEF HQ) and on Day 2: Mostafa Mamdouh; Social and Behavior Change Communication Director at JSI Egypt giving his presentation “Empowering Youth Voices in Family Planning and Reproductive Health”. Job well done by all 👏 👏 👏 My Key takeaways: 1. Prioritizing collaboration across disciplines to achieve sustainable and impactful social and behavior change. 2. Advocating for long-term programmes rather than short term projects as Kojo Lokko has mentioned in his keynote speech. My due thanks to the African Society for Social & Behavior Change (AS-SBC) secretariat and team for their relentless effort to bring together SBC practitioners and academics from diverse backgrounds across three consecutive days from all over Africa! Kenneth Mulondo Mabel Naibere Adebayo Fayoyin Daudi Ochieng Kemigisha Elizabeth, MPH @michellemuhumuza Emmanuel Kayongo amazing effort all 👏 👏 👏! Looking forward to the 2nd Africa Social and Behavior Change Summit in 2026! _______________________ If you have missed it- check out the recordings on the AS-SBC You Tube Channel: https://lnkd.in/dNcshMBB #AfricaSBSSummit24 #SBC #Socialmarketing #socialimpact #socialvalue #cocreation #Africa #Egypt

Health Behavior Coach || Behavior Change and Decision Making || My Mission is to help wellness professionals and coaches gain better behavioral outcomes for their clients
What does behavior change require? -a systematic and evidence based approach -it requires us to look at the models, theories and frameworks and see which ones will make the most sense for the projects we are working on -it requires us to frame the challenge or opportunity in behavioral terms and to make sure we are accounting for the context in which we are working on -it requires us to understand the needs -it requires us to take into account factors like culture -it requires us to create a thorough analysis of the drivers of the behaviors and related behaviors we are working on (using a behavioral model) -it requires us to go beyond the individual and to account for the system -it requires us to select techniques and strategies that are backed by evidence -it requires us to mix methods and to borrow and draw from other disciplines like design, so we can translate the strategies into proper solutions -it requires us to evaluate and account for unintended consequences If you want to learn to design for behavior why not take Robert Meza course: https://lnkd.in/e9vQvuDG Get 20% off with code: STUDENT20
