𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. Taking stock of a successful training on economic modelling in #Entebbe, #Uganda from the 16th to the 21st of September 2024. 📈 🌱How can economic models be used for concrete climate-sensitive and evidence-based policy planning? That was the focus of a one-week training organized by the global project “Policy Dialogue and Knowledge Management on Climate Protection Strategies (DIAPOL-CE)” in close cooperation with the bilateral project “Macroeconomic and Investment Policies (MIP)” in #Rwanda and the global project “Policy Advice for Climate Resilient Economic Development (CRED)”, all implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) 🎓More than 20 representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, national bureaus, central banks and academic institutions from #Nigeria, #Uganda and #Rwanda participated in the training. Louise Roos and Michael Jerie ( https://lnkd.in/dMmXdW7b ) from the Centre of Policy Studies, Victoria University, designed the course to enhance the participants’ understanding of the theory and database of the static Computable General Equilibrium Model developed for #Nigeria. The training course focused on the application of the model, interpretation of results, and use of the GEMPACK Software ( https://lnkd.in/ds3i4MPS ). 🏅 The training was a great success, thanks to: ✅a comprehensive curriculum ✅interactive sessions ✅hands-on practical exercises including concrete scenarios ✅the opportunity to network with peers from other countries. One participant stated: “This experience has prepared me to tackle complex economic problems.” Overall, the completion of this training marks a significant step towards building capacity in climate-sensitive economic modelling that can be integrated into future policy planning. A second training course is planned for 2025! #MacroecononomicModelling #CGEModel #PolicyPlanning #ClimateResilience #ClimateAdaptation #DIAPOLCE #MIP #CRED GIZ Rwanda GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS International Climate Initiative
