Something to cheer up a grey Monday morning. Restaurant operator The Fulham Shore – which owns Franco Manca and The Real Greek among others – has launched a new pizza outlet that borrows from 1970s and 1980s Italy. Super Club Roma, designed by 3Stories, is packed with retro visual references to Italian art, sport and design. The design firm's MD, Ben Webb explains, “People don’t have as much to spend, and when they do go out, they want to experience something unique. We are delighted to announce that HOLD Self Storage has secured committee approval for our site in London, Chiswick W4.*  Many thanks to all at London Borough of Hounslow and the planning committee for recognising this quality scheme and approving it (unanimously!).    This is a big win for HOLD. Anyone involved in large-scale planning applications knows they are a true labour of love. One week on from an enlightening trip to participate in the House of Beautiful Business & I’ve seen some wonderfully eloquent summaries from my fellow attendees… but in honesty, I’m still trying to align what it means to me. I didn’t know what to expect, or how I would fit in this eclectic mix of more than 85 speakers & 750 global leaders in business, science, art, & activism who came to Tangier, Morocco, to craft a narrative for a life-centred economy. This year’s overarching theme was Between the two of us – a narrative woven throughout the festival’s talks, breakout sessions, & workshops as a tool discuss topics such as growth, sustainability, feminism, AI, wellbeing, & social justice (to name a few). I immersed myself & connected with as many people as my “introverted extrovert” personality would allow. From the moment I landed in Tangier it was the people that really made it for me. The supportive, welcoming HoBB community that grew in those days, the conversations we had over mint tea & figs in palace corridors, watching sunset at Cap Spartel, or on a riad roof top. Musing further on all the amazing content we’d been absorbing, finding common ground & connection. One of the most beautiful moments I feel I will recount many times is that of Tunde Onakoya, grand chess master, who so simply put that he took something which he could do “above averagely well” as a catalyst to empower & change the lives of children in the slums of Lagos. Challenging me to look inwardly to something that perhaps I can do “above averagely well” as my little superpower to make positive change & contribute to a life centred economy. Looking through the lens of work, another highlight was the talk by Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering. At 3Stories, we talk about how meaningful stories create memorable experiences. There is so much value in the importance of why we gather, what connects us & what is truly at the heart of our experiences. Amazing people were not limited to the stage! I extend some personal thank yous to: Nancy Giordano for the warm welcome & memorable first day! (if you know you know). Arne Krasting for the run tour around Tangier… combining history & endorphins. Soeren Mund & Arne for the stunning roof top vibes, hospitality, & inviting Fatym Layachi to share how Between the two of us reflects her & her work. Jamal Amiar for guiding us through a tour of Tangier Jewish heritage. Lianne Bergeron for the morning coastal runs that got my body & mind ready for the day. Shazia Ali for all the great conversations & being such a delight to spend time with. Liam Darmody for awesome chat & challenging questions that I’m still thinking about! March saw the launch of HOLD Self Storage. For 3Stories a project that perhaps is seen to deviate from our more established hospitality portfolio, but at the heart is a strong brand positioning and that’s where we excel! What I loved about this project is challenging the status quo, in a market of loud logos and price-driven messaging how do we approach this differently – what is the opportunity? With an ambitious client team (shout out to Frederic de Ryckman de Betz & Callum Kempe) that trusted us and wanted to push the boundaries we were able to think outside the (self-storage) box. We initially worked on the brand strategy and positioning: Think like a tech company, behave like a well-being company, operate like a self-storage company. Offering adaptable, accessible storage solutions to give you space to move, breathe, and change. Leading with people first and service at the heart. The logo marque replaces the ‘O’ of HOLD with an asterisk, the concept being that the asterisk can represent whatever you need to store… be that personal or business, your winter wardrobe, or the extended man cave… The core message being: We make space for what matters to you. The initial brand work seamlessly extended to interior design, with the consideration of reception, retail, signage and wayfinding. Whilst the first opening in Kings Cross is a “soft” launch as a conversion site, there are some exciting developments in the pipeline. Can’t wait to share! Full scope included brand strategy and positioning, naming and creation of visual identity (logo, typography, colour palette, tone of voice, photographic styling, icons). We also saw the benefit to the brand to commission illustrations allowing for storytelling, character, and humour (Credit: Georgios Xanthos).
