Over the last few weeks, we’ve been highlighting our new #Resilience Fund partners. Last but certainly not least, we’re proud to introduce The Foyer Federation as our final partner for Cohort 3. The Foyer Federation and its Foyer network work with young people to ensure they have a safe, nurturing place to live. They also provide coaching to fulfil their ambitions and thrive. Through the third year of our Resilience Fund, we’re supporting small-to-medium sized youth homelessness charities to strengthen their operations for the future. Building a society in which every young person can thrive
About us
The Berkeley Foundation was set up by the Berkeley Group in March 2011. Now seven years old, we have committed more than £13 million to our charitable partners, £.4.4 million of which has been raised by Berkeley Group staff. We support young people, their families and communities across London and the South of England. We do this by working in partnership with the voluntary sector, and focus on four areas: Homes: helping people to access and sustain good quality housing Jobs: reducing barriers to work Skills: developing young people’s talent Care: opportunity regardless of illness or disability. The Berkeley Group provides ‘core’ funding for the Foundation, pays all of our overheads, and covers the cost of specific fundraising events. On top of this, Berkeley staff do an incredible job of raising money through fundraising events and Give As You Earn. Berkeley matches everything they raise, pound for pound. This support means that every penny raised for the Foundation is spent on charitable activities. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of joining the new Berkeley Group Plc graduates and apprentices to Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel for an introduction to the Berkeley Foundation. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce them to our charity partnerships and the impactful work we do together. We were thrilled to be joined by Toby Teeder and Saniat Chowdhury, both current participants on Berkeley's Graduate and Apprenticeship programmes. They gave incredible insights into their involvement with Foundation-related activities, what motivates them to get involved, and how it's shaped their careers so far. The group were challenged to plan a fun fundraising activity to engage Berkeley colleagues using a range of mystery objects! Huge thank you to our incredible Foundation Champions for joining the session and sharing information about our Community Partnerships. 🌟🤝

Berkeley staff regularly volunteer their time with our partner charity Crisis, sitting on its Changing Lives Panel. The Crisis Changing Lives programme makes small grants to help individuals who have experienced homelessness achieve their educational and career goals. Head of Foundation Sally Dickinson took part last week: “It was fantastic to be part of the panel and be able to award grants to help individuals move away from homelessness and forward in their lives.”

Sport has the capacity to support transformational change in the lives of young people who are impacted by inequality and barriers. Street Elite, the training for work initiative delivered as a collaboration between The Change Foundation UK and the Berkeley Foundation uses sport to engage young people. Coach mentors use their unique skills to build a safe and supportive environment for young people to express their emotions and break down barriers. Simon Pullan, Impact Consultant, The Change Foundation highlights ‘For these individuals, sport can provide a much-needed outlet for stress and a sense of belonging, but without the guidance and support of a coach mentor, the benefits of sports may not be fully realised.’ Read the blog series ‘Sports, coaching and young people – a missed opportunity?’ on our website: https://lnkd.in/eAUQ3ht7 #Sportsforgood #Sportember

Happy Sportember! This month, we are celebrating the impact of sport– whether through fundraising, as a way to improve our health and wellbeing, or as a transformative tool for social change. We’re kicking off by celebrating the achievements of the Berkeley Group Plc St James St William runners who took part in the #Big Half this weekend, in support of Community Partner charity Streets of Growth in #Tower Hamlets. Streets of Growth is a unique and dynamic youth outreach and targeted intervention charity that seeks to re-engage at risk and vulnerable young adults aged between 15 – 25. Yoga is just one of the activities that Streets of Growth offers to its young people to support positive mental and physical wellbeing. Well done to our runners who have raised over £12,000 so far to fund the delivery of these fantastic workshops. #Sportsforgood #Sportember
