About us
Bolton Council is one of 10 local authorities that make up the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Bolton town centre is surrounded by several smaller towns and villages that together form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton. The work of the council is carried out through three departments (Chief Executive’s, Department of People and Department of Place) which are overseen by the Cabinet and Executive Cabinet Members. The Council also works with a variety of private, public and voluntary sector organisations through the Bolton Strategic Partnership, Bolton Vision 2030. Bolton is situated in an enviable location- just 10 miles northwest of Manchester. With direct trainlines into Manchester, and excellent motorway links we are a well-connected borough. As well as facing into Manchester and the opportunities it provides for our people and businesses, we face out to the moorland and the Lancashire plains- nowhere in Bolton is more than a few minutes from open green space, which makes it an attractive place to live, work and visit.

𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 The new Greater Manchester Strategy for the Visitor Economy 2025-2030 has four strategic aims to help guide the sector to achieve success. Strategic aim two is about attracting and delivering major events, recognising that Greater Manchester is a place that truly flourishes when hosting spectators and audiences; when our distinctive welcome, passion, and expertise – combined with a casual sense of fun – results in an atmosphere unlike any other. Our visitor economy thrives on this success and will support the city-region to do more of what it does best: put on spectacular events year-round. In this film Sue Johnson, Chief Executive at Bolton Council explains the aim in further detail.
