  • *New date for your diary*    2024 marks ten years since the Calder Valley Community Land Trust first began our work creating vibrant places, spaces and homes in the Calder Valley. To celebrate this milestone, join us on 14 November for an evening of wine and conversation with respected writer and activist, Isaac Rose.   📅 14 November, 7 – 9pm 📍 Fielden Hall, Ewood Lane, Todmorden.    Isaac Rose, a Manchester-based tenant organiser who grew up in Hebden Bridge, released his “gripping, un-put-down-able” book ‘The Rentier City: Manchester and the Making of the Neoliberal Metropolis’ earlier this year.    The book tells the story of housing in Manchester and how a focus on property development has led to rising inequality in the city. We’ll look at what we can learn from Manchester and what solutions we can apply here in the Calder Valley. The discussion with Isaac will be opened by Dan Whittall from the @Trades Union Council and facilitated by Incredible Edible’s Pam Warhurst.   Todmorden’s own Imaginary Wines will be running a wine and beer pop up stall throughout the evening and there will be plenty of opportunities for conversation and celebration (it is our birthday after all!).    We look forward to welcoming you. • A huge thank you to everyone that came along to and supported our 10 year anniversary event last week. It was absolutely fantastic to welcome over 80 people to Fielden Hall in Todmorden where we explored how we can work together to address the housing crisis and help to improve the lives of local people. It was also great to hear from respected writer and activist, Isaac Rose, about his book ‘Rentier City’ and what we can learn from Manchester and apply here in the Calder Valley. There was lots of food for thought but the overwhelming message was that organisations like community land trusts are already working hard to address housing issues - but we can do so much more with community support. If you’d like to get involved and support our work, take a look at the link below or get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. A few special thank yous: - Isaac Rose, pam warhurst from Incredible Edible and Dan Whittall from the Trades Union Council for their fantastic insights - Local suppliers Imaginary Wines and Alma's Ethical Bakes for supporting our event and keeping us all fed and watered - The people behind the scenes who helped to plan and deliver the event, including our Trustee Board who are all volunteers Here’s to another 10 years (and beyond!) of creating vibrant places, places and homes in the Calder Valley! 💚 https://lnkd.in/enYKS79z

  • Last week, a couple of members of our Communications Working Group visited Fielden Hall to plan for our Rentier Valley event on 14 November. We’re particularly excited to be holding an event at Fielden Hall as it’s a great example of the work we’ve done over the last 10 years to create vibrant places, spaces and homes in the Calder Valley. The Land Trust secured ownership of the building back in 2016 and turned it into an asset for the community that is now used by 2,000 people each year. More recently, we’ve been exploring how we can make the building more energy efficient. Our current retrofit project at Fielden Hall is forecast to reduce energy bills by 41% and CO2 emissions by 87%. Event attendees can find out about our Fielden project and more at our event: 📆 14 November ⏰ 7 – 9pm (with option to arrive from 6pm for an informal chat with one of our team) 📍 Fielden Hall, Ewood Lane, Todmorden Book your spot: https://lnkd.in/eNPvw_GC

  • We had a fantastic day on Saturday at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Brunswick Street Open Day. It was great to see some of our members in person and share more about the work we’ve been doing over the last 12 months to create affordable homes and community spaces in the Calder Valley. Shortly after bringing our AGM to a close, we headed over to Brunswick Street, one of the properties in our developing portfolio of affordable homes. We’ll soon lowering the home’s energy bills through a significant retrofit before making the house available at an affordable rent later this year. The Open Day was an opportunity for members of the public to view the two-bedroom home before improvement works begin in July. A huge thank you to everybody that came along to our AGM and Open Day. We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our community 💚 If you’d like to support our work, there are lots of ways you can get involved, including becoming a member.
