In this interview with Rachel Rakvica, VC firm founder Ariane Tom, explains that neuroscience is underserved in our healthcare systems today. Her company, Kaleida Capital, is keen to work with start-ups in neurotech to advance the understanding of how our brains work and to address issues such as neurodegeneration and psychiatric disorders, which have such a high economic burden. New studies show how the brain influences many aspects of our health, from immune function to chronic pain. Neural activity can influence and be influenced in a bidirectional manner, so this is an exciting time to be working in neurotech. We’re approaching a watershed moment for quantum technology – we’ll soon see a quantum computer for commercial applications. If you think that’s a bold statement, we’d recommend checking out Capgemini’s new report, ‘Seizing the commercial value of quantum technology’. You’ll find a link to the report in James Cruise’s most recent article, where he discusses how we’re moving the conversation on to the specifics and practicalities of optimising quantum innovation – and the value derived from it. If you’re ready to take the first practical steps in understanding how quantum technology is different, what it is good at, and where it can be applied within existing systems, then you need to read James’s article. https://hubs.li/Q02G91Nk0 #quantumcomputing #quantum #quantumtechnology #quantumcomputer #quantumalgorithms #qlab #quantumlab Capgemini Invent

Today has been a fantastic opportunity to host this month’s Climate Tech Club and share insights with this community of people from around Cambridge who are passionate about climate change and technology. Solving the global challenges that we face will demand that we push technology far beyond today’s capabilities, it will take new collaborations and partnerships, investment in deep tech, and the vision to push the boundaries. Forums like the Climate Tech Club are just one of the catalysts we need to spark new innovations. We hope that all the attendees got as much out of today’s session as we did, and we look forward to next month’s session. The Climate Tech Club is a joint initiative between Cambridge Cleantech, Carbon13 and Barclays Eagle Labs, and supported by Innovation network of networks, Oxford to Cambridge Pan-Regional Partnership, Oxfordshire Greentech Sylvie Russell Sam Goodall Catherine Joce #cleantech #biodiversity #sustainability #naturetech #climatechange

CC has worked in partnership with Essex County Council and Saffron Walden County High School to pilot a scheme aimed at reducing barriers faced by students with special educational needs and disabilities when accessing the STEM workforce. Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming six work-experience students, aged 17 to 18, from Saffron Walden County High School. Over the week, the students participated in everything from team-building exercises and meeting with our CEO to designing antennas and programming robots. This pilot allowed us to gain valuable experience and knowledge in creating an accessible scheme. The training beforehand and the hands-on experience gained during the students' visit will allow us to shape our outreach even more effectively in the future. #STEM #SEND #OutReach #WorkExperience #Students

Neuroscience is a broad area in healthcare, and yet we are still learning how our brains work. Over the next weeks we’re sharing interviews with a leading neurosurgeon, a venture capital fund manager and a neuromodulation start-up. In these interviews we explore the current landscape of smart implants, the data they gather and how AI will be instrumental in developing clinical insights to improve not only patient care but to ease provider burnout. We are at the cusp of a great innovation leap where 10-15 years from now there will be closed loop systems of implants talking to each other in our bodies, with direct-to-organ care and healthcare delivered directly to our homes. https://lnkd.in/gkcBVD_K #Healthcare #ArtificialIntelligence #Neuroscience #MedicalDevices #DeepTech #Neuromodulation #AIinHealthcare Nandan Lad Ariane Tom, PhD Daniel Powell John Genova Ken Rys
