The UK has some of the best culturally diverse restaurants in the world. There are many amazing Michelin restaurants and fabulous eateries. But all too often our hospitality sector manages to alienate tourists, without even meaning to. I wrote a guide on how to avoid this for CLH News - here are my main tips. 💷 Don't lock yourself into only accepting contactless cards or orders through a QR code. So many tourists use cash to control their travel spending - and might not be used to ordering through their phone. 🍵 Don't limit your drink range. For example some tourists are used to sipping green tea with any and all meals. Some will be frustrated if you have a very limited range of non-alcoholic drinks. Make sure to cater for everyone. 🗣️ Don't assume everyone speaks English. While it is impractical to have all your staff learn multiple languages, hiring a few people who can speak languages like Spanish and Mandarin will give you a massive edge on your competitors. Staff who speak multiple languages have generally better multi-cultural appreciation than those who only speak one. 🍵Just as regional specialist ingredients excite people when they travel to France, Italy, Spain or even Germany, so specialist ingredients such as local fish, yogurts, jams, special seasonal vegetable & meat varieties are vital for highlighting unique and sustainable menus that stimulate the senses. What do you think would help UK restaurants attract more tourists?
