Art is a huge part of designing places that people want to be. Leeds has a proud history of celebrating street art [just see Europe's largest mural on the side of our project, Platform] and Kid Acne's collab with Platform_ at our Sweetfields BTR masterplan is a fine example of how vision and art can have an impact long before construction is complete.
Street Art Meets Urban Transformation in Leeds! PLATFORM_ X Kid Acne collab unveiled at Sweetfields. We’re excited to unveil an exciting new mural at Sweetfields in Leeds, created by renowned artist Kid Acne in collaboration with PLATFORM_. This striking piece transforms the historic Commercial Inn, marking the start of a vibrant new chapter for Leeds’ South Bank. With his signature ‘spirit animal’ characters and the message "Positive energy activates constant elevation," this artwork brings creativity and culture to the heart of our new Sweetfields neighbourhood. A new landmark for Leeds—come and see it for yourself!

💡 SPOTLIGHT ON.....#Hotels 💡 Laystall Street, Manchester, was never meant to be a hotel. Built in the 2000s as a residential block of 84 homes, the development was one of the first in the evolution of this former industrial heartland. Upon completion, the building was run as a budget apart-hotel, but as the area has slowly transformed, this site was earmarked for a new, aspirational use. Offering 155 keys in an extended-stay format, we doubled the number of rooms from its former arrangement – firstly as a residential block, then a budget hotel - weaving the new accommodation around the retained structural frame and irregular, shifting floorplates. A deck-access lightwell is reimagined as a shared courtyard dining space. A repositioned main entrance transforms the arrival journey and guest experience, whilst the un-let, vacant ground floor commercial units are brought into the hotel’s domain, forming the essential amenity and work-from-‘home’ spaces which make an exceptional extended-stay Residence. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Damond Lock on 10th February 2025. He was 91. After meeting at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Architecture, Damond founded DLG Architects in 1972 alongside Partners Stan Grabowski and Anthony Walker. From the Practice’s first offices in Manchester Square, Mayfair, Damond Lock Grabowski practiced people-driven masterplanning and design, later expanding out to Leeds whilst developing a large portfolio of clients with projects across the commercial sectors including new shopping centres, office buildings and almost everything in between. Damond’s particular interest in retail, conservation and urban renewal typified much of the Practice’s early and ongoing successes, delivering masterplans and new, modern town centres across the UK. An energetic architect, Damond retired in 1997; however, far from cleaning out his drawing pens, they were put to use throughout an active retirement which also saw him busy with his family, children and grandchildren. The funeral will be held near Farnham in the afternoon of Monday 3rd March. Should anyone require further details then please feel free to contact the practice email London@dlgarchitects.com or Leeds@dlgarchitects.com
