This week we welcomed 2 students into the studio from Leeds Beckett University School of Arts. Interior Architecture student Isobel Collier (left) and Architecture student Emily H. (right) were selected for a week long placement in industry following a speed mentoring session hosted at the University. This mentoring event saw 20 plus local practices covering Architecture, Interiors and Landscape Architecture, having the opportunity present their practice and speak with students. During their time with us, both students gained knowledge from the team and visited a couple of sites at varying stages to see how we bring our visions to life. Earlier this week fuse took part in the Leeds School of Arts, Leeds Beckett University “Speed Mentoring" event, which is a opportunity for architecture and interior design students to gain valuable work placements in industry. The first part of the event involved short 2min pitches by all the businesses present. This was followed by speed mentoring sessions with students and industry professionals. We’re delighted to say this led to fuse offering work experience for an architecture and an interiors student. We are delighted to start the new year by announcing a well-deserved promotion within the practice…. Sami Lee joined us as Team Secretary in 2014 and has been integral to the company’s growth and smooth running since then. She may also have been at the forefront of some of our social events too! After winding down for the Christmas break, our studio will be closed from the 24th of Dec and will be reopening on the 2nd of January 2025. We are thrilled to confirm that our client, Yorkshire-based property company RUSHBOND PLC has secured planning permission and listed building consent for the redevelopment of the landmark Bank House office building in Leeds City Centre - once the regional headquarters of the Bank of England. Fuse Studios are architects and interior designers for the project, which will see this landmark building refurbished and repurposed to create circa 90,000 sq ft of Grade A office and associated amenity rich floor space. The innovative proposals include an internal extension and the creation of a multi-level central atrium, transforming this significant building into a sustainable, energy efficient, accessible, best in class scheme. The former bank vaults at lower ground floor will be transformed into a new auditorium, and those on the ground floor a suite of meeting rooms. It is also proposed to substantially restore the iconic exterior and create a new roof level business lounge and terrace. Bank House is Grade II listed, and the planning and listed building consents were granted in less than two months, following a proactive pre-application engagement process with Leeds City Council. Fuse worked closely alongside the planning and heritage consultants, Lichfields UK during the planning process. Work is anticipated to commence early in 2026, when the building becomes vacant, and to complete mid-2027. We are pleased to share some site progress and aerial photography courtesy of Main Contractor Lindum Group highlighting the great progress being made on the construction of 32 new build homes for our client Forge New Homes at Olive Lane, Waverley. It was a cold start on site this week but well worth it to see the ground floor timber frame erected for the first of seven terraced blocks within the site. Looking forward to watching (and sharing) the progress of this project in the future. We are excited to confirm that fuse studios, on behalf of our client WSP, is working for Schneider Electric on multiple projects throughout the UK. These varied projects include CAT-B office refurbishments, which are either phased within Schneider’s current buildings or fitouts of new locations for the business. We have also been designing new build industrial warehousing and have been providing technical advisory roles on other projects where the design and delivery is by others. It has been great to be working as architects and interior designers with a Leeds based consultant team for these projects. WSP has been providing a full range of engineering and planning consultancy and Rider Levett Bucknall RLB is providing the project management and quantity surveying services. Since its formation, Fuse has been successfully designing projects within the Higher and Further Education sectors. Projects have ranged from the masterplanning of multi-building campuses, to the sensitive conversion of existing heritage assets and the delivery of highly sustainable, specialist college facilities.
