Environmental social scientist at Oxford Uni | Governance, participation, environmental policy & practice | Risk and uncertainty in UK natural capital
Very pleased to finally share that I will be working with Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for the next 6 months! I'll be conducting social science-led research on high-integrity voluntary carbon and nature markets, aiming to strengthen evidence around the UK Nature Markets Framework. Funded by an Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) Fellowship and supported by my continued work at the The Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, the project will explore the barriers to businesses' participation in the markets and how policy, guidance, and regulatory interventions can help. Specifically, I will focus on how perceptions of risk and uncertainty shapes the role and influence of market-based solutions within the politics and governance of broader sustainability transformations, considering the negotiation between multiple climate, biodiversity and socio-economic priorities. To enable an in-depth understanding of decision-making at the science-policy interface, I will go on Secondment (from today!) to DESNZ in London to work with the International Carbon Markets team in a formal Advisory role. I will still be working at Oxford Uni during this time, continuing work on 'Risky Nature Recovery', participatory and democratic governance as part of the The Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery. I'll look forward to sharing further updates and reflections on the project as it unfolds, and am very open to making new connections in this space, learning from other approaches, and building on existing efforts - please do get in touch!
