Craighead WTW achieved Water in Supply on 29th October 2024 In the three weeks since I inherited the project the project team have provided diligent support and training to the Scottish Water Operations team. This culminated in the approval by members of the Scottish Water Board to put the water through the new works into public supply. A very hard worked and satisfying achievement for the whole team. The team have continued this support post WiS as we approach Gate 100 and Project Acceptance. A collaborative achievement with the client that continues to produce great results when overcoming challenges in the initial optimisation of a new treatment works. About us
How we manage water and wastewater systems now will be critical for our communities and ecosystems for many generations to come. The challenges are many – growing populations, the need to protect our environment and reverse the erosion of biodiversity as well as finding ever-more sustainable approaches to everything we do. ESD Joint Venture is a Scottish Water design and construction partner engaged in the upgrade of water and wastewater treatment facilities. We help to increase the capacity, quality and sustainability of the water network. As a joint venture, involving MWH Treatment, Galliford Try and Binnies, our strength is in the mix of technologies and expertise we bring. Along with our first contract with Scottish Water (SR15), we are delivering a second programme of work (SR21) valued at £700 million over the next six years.

Greenock SCADA achieved acceptance on 17th December 2024 We are delighted to announce the successful acceptance of the Greenock SCADA Replacement Project. This extremely complex project, which has been over 7 years in the design and prepare stage, will replace the existing redundant distributed control system with a new specification compliant Siemens PLC and SCADA system. This new state-of-the-art system will allow the works to be maintained for years to come. This milestone has only been achieved by close collaboration between ESD, Scottish Water and the systems integrator BGEN. Well done to everyone involved! Together with Scottish Enterprise we've embarked on a journey to transform wastewater treatment. What makes the project at Winchburgh truly special is the simplicity and efficiency we've achieved in designing and implementing the solution. We've seen firsthand how easy it is to create a sustainable system that not only optimises performance but also brings us one step closer to a greener future. Check out our latest video showcasing how straightforward designing and implementing Nereda can be. From concept to completion, our technology ensures optimal performance while simplifying processes and minimising environmental impact. It was an absolute pleasure to represent MWH Treatment at this incredible event! Thoroughly enjoyed hosting a series of workshops about water treatment and its importance for such an engaged and inquisitive group of young people. I believe the future of chemical engineering is in safe hands! Special thanks to Jo Cox at Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for all your efforts to make the day such a success.
IChemE and the Big Bang on Location in Rugby! 🎉 🧑🏫 Thank you to all our fantastic visiting engineers, exhibitors, and IChemE members and staff for delivering such an engaging event for around 300 young people aged 10 to 18 and their teachers – and thanks to all the visiting children and teachers for getting to grips with all the activities. An introduction to the work of chemical and process engineering, the Big Bang on Location saw local school children get to grips with different engineering challenges and find out about different routes into chemical engineering. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make the day such a success, you are an inspiration! 👏 Sectors including water, pharma, food and drink and energy were represented including; Anglian Water Services Britvic plc, MWH Treatment, PM Group, RWE, Veolia, Xodus, The Francis Crick Institute, the Operational Research Society, University of Nottingham, Swansea University and Teesside University.
