Our longstanding relationship with Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has played a key role in the development of our team at Focus. From apprenticeships to advanced professional qualifications, NTU has provided our staff with a solid foundation on which to pursue careers within the built environment. Many of our team members began their careers with NTU courses in Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying while others completed the Future Homes L4 course, or pursued specialist programs to deepen their expertise through professional management courses, equipping them with the skills to drive progress at Focus. The 2024 Budget brings positive news for many sectors we work with including healthcare, public services, education, housing and energy. The £5bn housing investment for example coupled with changes to right-to-buy discounts and local government reinvestment in council housing seeks to increase the supply of affordable homes.   In energy, the £3.4bn Warm Homes Plan is committed to lowering bills and reducing emissions—aligning with our own goals of creating a sustainable built environment. The creation of Great British Energy, a new, publicly owned, clean energy company, marks a promising step towards a greener infrastructure.   Additionally, the Department for Education will receive a 19% increase in capital investment with £1.4bn allocated to rebuilding over 500 schools.   In the cultural sector, while there was no mention of specific investment into museum and heritage capital projects, the government has committed to increasing Grant-in-Aid for National Museums and Galleries, with a "package of cultural infrastructure funding" to support cultural organisations across the country. However, concerns remain that this budget did not go far enough and many heritage organisations may struggle. As an SME, we fully understand that this investment comes at a cost, these are tough decisions, our hope is that business growth and enterprise remains supported.   #UKBudget2024 #Housing #Investment #Energy #Education #Funding #Budget

Last week, Building Surveyor James Garner attended the official opening of the new community centre, The Grove Community Hub, in Braunstone. Our client, B-inspired, offers vital services to the community, including a food share scheme, befriending initiatives, social groups, and mental health support, among many others. The Grove is set to become a key resource, providing workspace, a community hall, and much-needed local support.   We’re proud to have supported the project by delivering building surveying, design, contract administration, and cost management services for this major refurbishment which has brought back to life the former Braunstone Grove Young Peoples Centre.
