Providing expertise and support in order to protect, improve and expand England's woodlands.
About us
What do we do? We provide grants, licences and advice to private woodland owners to encourage new tree planting and to help keep private forests under sustainable management. Our plant health officers inspect wood imports at ports to minimise the risk from foreign pests and diseases. Our experts work with local authorities and landowners to contain and control any spread. We licence tree felling to protect our woodlands for generations to come.

It's #RecycleWeek! Did you know we supported plastic tree guard recycling hubs in the South East of England over the summer? These helped people sustainably dispose of redundant plastic tree guards. 🌳 The Essex tree guard recycling hub opened for the second year running at Essex Wildlife Trust's Abbotts Hall Farm on 20 & 21 August. A total of around 31,500+ plastic tree guards were dropped off to be recycled. That’s around 5.6 tonnes of plastic. 🌲 The Suffolk tree guard recycling hub's first year was a success, opening on 19 & 20 June with around 2.5 tonnes of plastic deposited here for recycling. Many dedicated partners work together to make these schemes happen, including The Woodland Trust, Forest Plastics Working Group, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, Tubex Tree Shelters, Essex Wildlife Trust, Suffolk Tree Wardens, Suffolk County Council. Look out for tree guard recycling hubs reopening in 2025, and read our blog to find out more about how we're helping to tackle plastics in woodland creation: https://lnkd.in/eRY4e8iW
