Could you be our next Chair of Trustees? Applications are open until 28 March. Watch our outgoing Chair of Trustees, Jeremy Oppenheim share his highlights from being part of an environmental charity that takes action on the systems that harm us and our planet. "We live in an uncertain time and a moment where, understandably, the younger generation has a real sense of anxiety about the way in which the future might play out. What Global Action Plan does at its best is to take that uncertainty and to take those concerns and to channel them into creative, positive and purposeful action." Our focus areas are working for cleaner air, educational reform and to make the online climate safer for our lives and our planet. If this interests you, and you can champion intersectional change, we'd love to hear from you. Download our candidate pack and apply now: https://lnkd.in/ePUgnHDV

Our lives. Our planet.
About us
Global Action Plan mobilises people and organisations to take action on the systems that harm us and our planet. We are an environmental charity working towards a green and thriving planet where everyone can enjoy happy and healthy lives within the Earth’s limits. We tackle the root causes of our climate and nature crises through research, campaigns and collective action. We focus on issues where the connection between the health of people and our planet is most tangible. This allows us to show the interrelationship and drive solutions that prioritise wellbeing for all. Our current focus issues are air pollution, excessive consumption and the education system.

Can you help us make the internet safer? If you’re a parent of an 11-16 year old who has been the target of an online scam - where someone has pretended to be who they're not in order to get your child to give them private information, or money, or get involved in a fake selling scheme - then we would love to talk to both you and your child. We will pay you £40 for your time in attending the session. We’re working to make the internet safer and we urgently need stories from young people and families who have been impacted by online scams, to understand the lasting emotional impact and to help us raise awareness and create change. Elements from the stories shared with us will be made anonymous and used by Global Action Plan and Global Action Plan’s campaign brand collaborators on Safer Internet Day as part of a press and social media campaign to highlight the impact of scams on young people. Complete this form to book a 30 minute Zoom call with a DBS-checked practitioner - to take place before 5th February - with you and your child. Please share this opportunity with your networks. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5eqP9ki

Tonight is Clean Air Night. In the UK, domestic wood burning is now responsible for more harmful fine particle air pollution (PM 2.5) than all road transport emissions combined. It can be particularly harmful for our health as the smoke enters your bloodstream when inhaled and causes heart and lung disease, diabetes, and dementia. From the 1970s to the early 2000s levels of air pollutants steadily declined, largely due to improved transport standards and reduced coal burning. This change has plateaued in recent years as more and more people fit wood burning stoves into their homes. The RCOG is a member of the UK Health Alliance for Climate Change and we have focused lots of our advocacy work on the impact of air pollution, which can damage health across our lifetime and has particular risks for pregnant women and during fetal development. Dr Maddie Di Vicq (Clinical Fellow, Sustainability and Climate Change) has written a blog about the importance of advocating for reducing air pollution. She also shares some of the wider work of the College to respond to the climate crisis and advocate for a healthier future for women and girls. Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wQaqq
