Moray West Offshore Wind Farm | Project Completed With the successful completion of operations for the Moray West Offshore Wind Farm at the Port of Nigg, we’re proud to reflect on another major project delivered by Global Energy Group and our portfolio businesses Global Port Services and Global Energy Services. Over the course of the project, we provided end-to-end turnkey solutions - from port lease, storage, and marshalling to fabrication, cranage, and pre-assembly construction, supported by specialist personnel. Key components for the 60 x 14.7MW turbines were managed through our facility, including: 62 Transition Pieces | 240 Tower Sections | 60 Nacelles | 180 Blades. Nigg continues to be a leading port facility supporting the nation’s offshore wind industry, with the completion of Moray West bringing the total capacity of offshore wind assets managed through site to over 3.5GW. We're proud to announce plans for further investment in the Port of Nigg, strengthening its position as Scotland’s leading offshore wind hub. With up to £10 million in support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, this £30.5 million expansion will deliver a 230m heavy-duty quay and roll-on roll-off capability, increasing capacity for future offshore wind projects. Since acquiring Nigg in 2011, we’ve invested over £120 million to create a world-class offshore wind superhub. This latest development reaffirms our commitment to supporting Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions and delivering long-term economic growth. We’re pleased to share that Port of Nigg has become the first site within the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport to be awarded customs site status by HM Revenue & Customs, following a stringent audit and verification process. Achieving this status strengthens the facility’s position as a leading renewable energy superhub and will help unlock new opportunities in heavy engineering and manufacturing within the energy industry. The designation increases the facility’s competitiveness and attractiveness for inward investment, supporting projects such as Sumitomo Electric’s £350m subsea cable factory which is currently being built at Nigg. It also brings the Green Freeport closer to delivering high-value, sustainable jobs and long-term economic growth for the region. Rory Gunn, Facilities Director at Port of Nigg, said: "As a large and established hub facility within the energy industry, the customs site status will further enhance our competitiveness, especially in the offshore renewables sector. It will enable us to attract new opportunities and provide benefits to our existing and future clients.” Calum MacPherson, Chief Executive at ICFGF, said: "Port of Nigg has demonstrated the exceptionally high standards organisations will need to meet to operate these HMRC-regulated zones. This status significantly raises our potential as a major European hub for offshore wind and renewable energy technologies."
