Eid al-Fitr, also known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is a significant celebration for Muslims worldwide. It marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. On this day, families and friends come together to enjoy festive meals, exchange gifts and extend greetings of peace and goodwill. Co-chair of GMCA and GMFRS Race and Faith Network, Humaira Ahmed, has reflected on conversations and activity that has taken place across our organisations over the last month: "This year has been incredible, with so many engaging in Ramadan in diverse and meaningful ways. From colleagues participating in the 'Share Ramadan' experience to support their team members to others attending local community and inter-faith iftars throughout the month, the spirit of unity has been truly inspiring. "These events have been a celebration of togetherness, bringing people from all walks of life to share in the essence of Ramadan. It's a time of gratitude, charity, and community where everyone is encouraged to share their blessings with those in need."

Last week, Environment Secretary Steve Reed emphasized the shift to a circular economy, focusing on reducing waste and promoting reuse, repair, and recycling. He announced the creation of a Circular Economy Taskforce to target key sectors and foster a sustainable, growth-oriented economy. Our work with Recycle for Greater Manchester and SUEZ UK was also highlighted: “British businesses are already showing us what’s possible. From innovative tech startups turning waste into valuable materials, to social enterprises giving used goods a second life. Like SUEZ working with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to give hundreds of tonnes of pre-loved items like furniture, bikes and toys a brand new lease of life.” Read the full speech here: https://lnkd.in/ejHCiNRM

Greater Manchester Combined Authority reposted this
Our expertise in re-use was yesterday praised by Secretary of State for the Environment, Steve Reed MP, who said that our work undertaken with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in giving “hundreds of tonnes of pre-loved items like furniture, bikes and toys a brand new lease of life” was a an example of “British businesses showing us what’s possible” to deliver a circular economy. Responding, SUEZ UK CEO John Scanlon said: “It’s a genuinely proud moment for SUEZ to see our work with GMCA used as an exemplar by the environment secretary in his speech at the Dock Shed yesterday. Together with R4GM we have created the UK’s most successful reuse operation and have proven that pre-loved can be re-loved. This mindset is absolutely fundamental to establishing a circular economy and ending that throwaway mentality that Mr Reed has highlighted.
