Over the past two weeks, we’ve visited all our blocks as part of our annual fire safety checks 🏢🌳   Building safety is important to us, and colleagues from all areas of the organisation, including our Board members, such as Deborah Walthorne and Akshay Parikh, joined us to better understand how we are putting the safety of customers first – it also gave them the opportunity to ask questions and ensure we're effectively managing risks.   It was especially interesting to talk about how gathering data has influenced our decisions on fire safety and how improved technology has strengthened our commitment to ensuring customers are safe in their homes.   We also meet residents along the way, listening to their concerns and sharing what we're doing to ensure their safety 🏘🦺

We're committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of our communities. We are delighted to be working with other housing associations and the West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver homes more quickly and efficiently, helping to address the urgent housing needs in the West Midlands 🏘 #Housing #AffordableHousing

Five of our larger members met today at the LoCaL Homes Factory in Walsall and signed a groundbreaking new agreement with West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker, that will see more affordable homes built across the West Midlands. The new Homes for the West Midlands Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) will see Bromford, Citizen, GreenSquareAccord, Midland Heart, and whg work with the West Midlands Combined Authority to increase the scale and pace of the delivery of affordable homes within the region.

We're pleased to share our Social Value Report 2023/24, which measures the wider impact we have made for local people, communities and the planet 🌍💙 We believe that access to good-quality affordable #housing makes a real difference to people’s lives, providing a platform for better life chances. In the last year we have built more than 500 new homes, ensuring that good-quality, affordable housing is available for those that so desperately need it. Our development programme is also supporting jobs and helping to boost productivity by ensuring every region has the homes it needs to grow. Combined with our community investment services, we are making a tangible difference, providing people with the opportunities they need to pursue better life chances and build brighter futures. With a total social value figure of £46.4m, key outcomes from this year include: 💷 £4.8m secured in unclaimed welfare benefits for customers 🏠 106 households safeguarded from eviction through the provision of financial advice and support 💙 Over 1,100 people helped to improve their health and wellbeing Our 2030 Plan, through our social justice programme, sets out our commitment to reducing #inequalities and ensuring everyone has access to the services and opportunities they need to thrive. We unlock as much social value as we can to tackle these inequalities in our operating areas and enhance the long-term wellbeing and resilience of individuals.

New research from the National Housing Federation, Home Builders Federation, and Savills in The Times shows the government will miss its 1.5M homes target by 500k homes, without funding and policy intervention. The only way to plug this gap and build the homes we need is through funding for #SocialHousing 🏘

Our second development scheme is underway in #Lichfield with the first affordable homes handed over to us on Acresford Park 🏡🔑 Of these 26 homes, 10 will help first-time buyers get onto the housing ladder, with 16 for social and affordable rent. We're excited to be working with our developer partner Walton Homes Limited on our second scheme in Lichfield and looking forward to taking the final handovers of homes in the coming months. #AffordableHousing #UKHousing #Development

From food prep to family meals on a budget, our customers have been on a cooking journey with #TikTok star Mitch Lane (aka Meals by Mitch) 🍲✨   Our six-week Food Matters programme, part-funded by Walsall’s Food for Life (FFL) programme called My Food Community, has empowered our customers with weekly practical cooking skills, social interactions, confidence building, and lots of new ideas for cooking healthy, affordable meals in a convenient and cost effective way.   And the best part?   Each customer was able to take home ingredients, recipes and cooking utensils to keep the learning going at home and feed their families! 🍳👨🍳   Each session focused on a different topic and meal, which can all be made for under a fiver from Mitch's cookbooks – perfect for healthy, delicious meals for the family. 📘 Topics ranged from using long-life store cupboard ingredients, reducing costs and carbon footprint by cooking a vegetarian no-meat recipe, how to use leftovers for dinner the next day, and everyone’s favourite how to make celebrating not blow the budget.    Kylie, one of our customers who attended the programme, shares: "I’ve learnt new skills and started to experiment with different flavours and ingredients in my cooking at home, and more importantly, the kids have loved eating the things we have made."   The programme also brought people together, as Kylie adds: "I struggle with social anxiety, but these sessions have helped me become more confident and build new friendships I never would have thought I could do something like this but I have loved it."   This programme has been delivered in partnership with Mitch and our Stronger Communities team as part of our Social Justice transformational programme, set out in Our 2030 Plan.

Last week we had the opportunity to share the exciting progress of the Royal Quarter as part of Invest Wolverhampton's Business Breakfast 📰👷🏼♂️   The breakfast marked the end of Wolverhampton Business Week, a programme of events to promote economic growth within the city.   During the morning, our Corporate Director of Development Rebecca Bennett Casserly shared how the project is transforming one of the main gateways into Wolverhampton with 450 new and affordable homes being built by developers Morro Partnerships 🏗🧱 The scheme also includes apartments for over 55s in the converted Grade II listed former Royal Hospital. Not only that, but through working with the YMCA Black Country Group, we are creating a sustainable, multi-generational community. With community-focused amenities such as a day nursery and café, open spaces and easy transport links, the quarter is becoming a model of successful placeshaping.   We're so proud of what we are achieving on this site and delighted to be playing a part in driving the local economy forward. #UKHousing #BusinessBreakfast #Wolverhampton #Development City of Wolverhampton Council

We’ve just published our 2023/24 Sustainability Report, highlighting our commitment to creating more #sustainable homes, neighbourhoods, and communities 🌍🌿   Last year, this work included investing a substantial £89.15 million in building new homes, ensuring they were energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.    A quarter of all building stock project spending was dedicated to energy efficiency improvements, contributing to our goal of achieving net zero by 2050. This included upgrading insulation, installing energy-efficient heating systems, and incorporating renewable energy sources.   But it’s not just about the environment – we’re also focused on boosting social value. Our report highlights initiatives aimed at improving social value, such as partnerships with local health services to enhance access for marginalized communities. These efforts are designed to create thriving, resilient communities.   We’re also making sure our colleagues are on board with our sustainability journey. We’ve achieved Bronze Carbon Literate Organization status, which means our colleagues are well-versed in sustainability and ready to make a positive impact. #CarbonNetZero #Sustainability #Housing Rupee Sanghera Jo Shields
