About us

Connecting young people to the world of art and architecture “We want to enable young people to experience the art of making and the making of art, and introduce more opportunities and different career paths - opening up the world of creative industries.” — SIR NICHOLAS GRIMSHAW We are a global community of artists, architects and designers who want to support and inspire young people to discover the value of creativity. The Grimshaw Foundation aims to establish a global education network, beginning in London, Sydney, Melbourne and New York. We want to benefit a diverse range of young people in schools and communities and to promote creativity and sustainability. Architecture tours, studio visits and practical workshops led by artists, designers and architects, will be the starting point to empower young people with the skills and opportunities they need to fulfil their creative potential. Online resources and learning will increase the reach and accessibility of the Foundation, fulfilling our ambition to create an inclusive future for the next generation of thinkers and experts in the art, design and architecture community. From poetry workshops to hands-on making and building, Grimshaw Foundation aims to challenge 12-18 year olds to explore and get creative. Our ambition is to establish a global education network with schools and communities, to promote innovative design, creativity and sustainability to benefit a diverse range of young people from under-represented communities.

The Royal Albert Hall x Grimshaw Foundation programme, 'Performance. Architecture. Design.’ (PAD) has won a TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) Inspire Future Generations Award in the Children Long Term Programme category!   The awards recognise organisations working with children and young people, to engage them in advocating for a better built environment, and it’s an honour to be recognised for PAD, which was led with the support of Urban Learners in 2024.   Over six months the programme worked with 160 students, and the Hall's Associate Artists — Rhael 'LionHeart' Cape Hon FRIBA, Anna Lapwood, Jess Gillam, and Corey Baker — to introduce, engage, and immerse engage young people in creative thinking, making and learning and expose them to the opportunities in creative professions. The culmination was a Big Build Day where eight different installations, designed as performance spaces, were constructed at the Royal Albert Hall.   It’s fantastic to be part of these awards that promote the commitment in the industry to closing the gap between architecture and education, encouraging a diversity of thought and inclusion through activity, collaboration and research. Congratulations to all the other winners → https://lnkd.in/dxExx3M2   And thank you and congratulations to the amazing group of students who took part in PAD, the inspiring Royal Albert Hall Associate Artists, and to all our volunteers from Mott MacDonald, AKT II, Hoare Lea, SHH Architecture & Interiors, Exterior Architecture Ltd, MICA Architects, Momentum Transport Consultancy, and ING Media.    Find out more here → https://lnkd.in/ezQqfW99

The Grimshaw Foundation is a finalist in the TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) Inspire Future Generations Awards 2024, an awards programme that recognises organisations and individuals that have been working with children and young people, to help them engage in and advocate for a better built environment.   Over the past two years the Foundation has been leading on programmes and initiatives that, through making and creating, elevate the role of creativity as an essential skill for the future, and introduce young people from different backgrounds to the creative industries and careers within architecture and design.    The two projects recognised as finalists are: → Performance Architecture Design (PAD): Youth Long Term Programme and Children Long Term Programme Award led by Grimshaw Foundation and the Royal Albert Hall with the support of Urban Learners. → Architecture for Change: Climate Change Award, led by Grimshaw Foundation, supported by Urban Learners.   Since 2021 the Foundation has worked with over 500 young people and 15 schools. Its most recent partnership, with the Royal Albert Hall, was behind the successful PAD programme which enabled 160 young people to work with the Royal Albert Hall Associate Artists Rhael 'LionHeart' Cape Hon FRIBA, Anna Lapwood, Jess Gillam and Corey Baker through a series of workshops and a final bid build — installing eight performance spaces at the Hall, designed by the students.   A huge congratulations to all the finalists and thank you TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) for continuing to advocate for professional and practitioner action in programmes that educate, engage and inspire the next generation. #ifgawards #ifgawards2024 #art #architecture #design #education #inspirefuturegenerations
