We are thrilled to announce our vision for a New Watford Market on behalf of Plymouth Holdings Inc has received planning consent! Congratulations to everyone involved, including: Carson+Sall and Exterior Architecture Ltd.
Watford Market has long been a vital part of the town’s vibrant identity, and this project marks the next chapter in its evolution. With a rich history of creative community enterprise – spanning music, film, food, and trade – Watford is a town known for its dynamism and innovation.
Our vision seeks to build on this legacy, transforming the market into a thriving intergenerational campus that celebrates Watford’s cultural roots while creating a model for integrated city living redefining the role of a town-centre destination in the 21st century.
By blending architecture and masterplanning with an understanding of commercial viability, our proposals deliver a regeneration project for Watford that is both visionary and practical. The result combines bold architectural interventions – such as the adaptive reuse of the retained facade along The Parade as a cultural landmark – with strategic urban planning to reconnect the station to the town centre via newly activated pedestrian routes.
The scheme introduces 152 new homes above a revitalised market, complemented by flexible workspaces, allotments, play areas, and spaces for events. Enhanced infrastructure, as well as improved pedestrian connections, includes open spaces, and landscaping, creating a more accessible and inviting environment.
Watford Market’s regeneration is not just about revitalising a specific site – it’s about setting a benchmark for how town centres can adapt to the challenges and opportunities of the future. Unlike historic city centres which evolved organically over time, this project offers a rare chance to create a cohesive destination in one transformative phase.
