We are a charity creating solutions to homelessness, that come directly from people who have been homeless.
About us
Groundswell works with people with experience of homelessness, offering opportunities to contribute to society and create solutions to homelessness. Participation is at our core because the experience of homelessness is crucial in making decisions that affect lives and ultimately help people to move out of homelessness. We aim to address four key issues: homelessness; health inequalities; lack of participation in service delivery and policy; as well as a society that does not work for everyone. We achieve this by ensuring people can access health care; offering progression opportunities for people with experience of homelessness; and by creating change in policy and practice.

One focus of our new strategy is Better Futures. In this testimonial, a Homeless Health Peer Advocate Volunteer tells us what this means to them. 🗣️"My health advocate saved my life when I was on the street. Groundswell offers me the chance to do that for others. Volunteering has helped me to feel more hopeful for my future, a future where I can achieve my potential and also be there for others, helping them to feel more hopeful too." Groundswell - Homelessness Charity UK reposted this
"As someone who'd been in active addiction for years, I was convinced I'd done irreparable damage to my body. So, when a bowel cancer screening kit was sent to me, I ignored it for months - I was afraid of getting bad news. Eventually I took the plunge, and the results came back very quickly...negative. I've since taken another test which was also negative. I am so glad I found the courage to do it, because it's now one less thing to worry about.” Chris, 63 years old This story is part of a fantastic campaign by North Central London Cancer Alliance to help improve cancer screening for people experiencing homelessness. Nearly £1bn is set to leave the homeless sector in April, putting vital services at risk. On #WorldHomelessDay, we’ve joined 75 other organisations in signing Homeless Link's letter to Rt Hon Rachel Reeves calling for action in the #AutumnBudget. Guardian article - https://bit.ly/3A5dwxg

DO YOU RUN HEALTH PROMOTION SESSIONS? We've produced a series of films and resources, with financial support provided as a grant from Pfizer Ltd. These resources help people working or volunteering in homelessness services or accommodation consider ways to run health promotion (also known as in-reach) sessions. 👉 See the films and resources here: https://bit.ly/4eLRK0q #HealthPromotion #Homelessness #Health #PfizerUK

See below for a fab project focusing on cancer screening for people experiencing homelessness. We contributed to this project with the coproduction of health guides on various types of screening, which you can access on our resource hub: https://lnkd.in/eVh-YND6 #CancerScreening #Homelessness
Last week we launched Your Health First, a campaign to raise awareness of cancer screening among people experiencing homelessness. Our thanks to Mulberry Junction run by Haringey Council for letting us decorate their entrance with our campaign slogan. We had a great morning last Thursday talking to service users and key workers about attending screening, what to do and the support information that is available. We are working with eight local homelessness support organisations to spread the word. The campaign is part of a wider project to address inequalities in screening participation in this section of our local population.
